Pool hopping no longer?

State the policy: that Disney has about no pool hopping and then move on. The problems begin when others not the OP, try to argue that the rules either do not exist or can be ignored.

While Disney actively enforces the policy at some pools, not so much at others, it is a written on a sign at every pool meaning Disney does care.

So in truth, asking the hot question is not the problem, others thinking they are above policy is the problem.

Another take on this is that some folks on the DIS sort of see themselves as well.....the rule enforcers. They get emotional when they see someone doing something that THEY thinks is against the rules, even when Disney itself does nothing to enforce those rules. Like if someone found a way to get out of standing in line for a ride - you can just bet that multiple DISers will immediately chime in to explain why they can't do that. WE'd all like to avoid standing in lines - but 'why should you get to avoid lines if I can't avoid them?' It's almost like they are jealous sometimes. Like "I wasn't clever enough to think of that, so you can't do it." OR "I thought of that too, but decided it would be wrong, so you shouldn't do it either." Or if someone wants to do something that goes against courtesy, or societal customs - others feel the need to chime in and spell out what they think the correct customs are.

Still one more facet is well, kind of like second guessing the situation - you know, when you think of the perfect comeback six hours after the fact. OP shares something they saw, or thought they saw in the park -and on theDIs we have the luxury of coming up with the perfect comback line or response toteh situation. someone says they thought they saw situation X, and half the DIS assumes it really happened then the other half say it didn't happen that way, or couldn't happen that way.

I also think not all heated debates are useless. Sometimes they can be very helpful. Eventhough they are heated, dosn't mean that the folks aren't expressing some really valid explanations. Like sometimes the posts about having hidden disabilities are really insightful. That old expression about walking ten miles in someone else's shoes. You may not realize you are saying something insensative until someone else points it out. That's the beauty (advantage) of the anonymous posting. Shy folks have opinions too. In our world of loud talkers, often the squeaky wheel gets the grease. The DIS gives the quiet wheels a voice too!

I must confess there are things that drive me nuts.
Three weeks ago we stayed in a Disney resort. No smoking is the rule. Not in te room not on the balcony. After my chemo treatment my lungs are very sensitive to any kind of smell. Smoke,paint,steam from hot water. I cough my lungs almost out wen I use the shower. The moist in the air almost chokes me.

When we passed the room of these ladies I could smell the smoke. As we had a ground floor room we passed there balcony every time we left the building. They had there cigarette packages stashed on the railing like soldiers. Six,seven packages in a row and meanwhile smoking like a steamboat. (we called them SB Willy and SB Mark Twain. )

They did not care if any one saw them.
It really freaked me out. If I had gotten the room after them I would have cough myself to death.
I know it was non of my business and I did not rat them out to the CM but it made me really mad and sad.
This is one of the rules I really would like to see enforced.

No insult. Simply put, the popcorn guy is simply announcing that the topic of the thread is a hotbed one, and they are anticipating that it will get ugly. A shorthand, lighthearted (In my view) way of saying, "Here we go again..." I certainly don't use it as an insult. Just shorthand. I also think that smilies are a shorthand way to soften what you are saying.

THAT's what the popcorn smilie is about. Yeah, it's alittle like rubbernecking on the highway. But often folks who use the popcorn smilie use it to also say, "Here we go again, and I'm going to just back out now before it gets ugly." A way to stay above the fray. Sometimes I intend to stay out of something, but when I see it the thread has gone viral - ans is up to 20 pages - my curiosity gets teh better of me.

You are right in some cases, but I have used to popcorn guy for other reasons: like when someone posts a question asking when park hours will be released or some other interesting piece of info. It means I am also anticipating the answer because I also had the same question. I have seen many people use it this way.

I think that is one of the problems with all discussion boards in general actually: tone is very hard to discern, and those who are already sensitive or easily angered just can't keep that in mind. Many of the threads I've seen would have never gotten out of hand if they were discussed in person because tone and body language soften words, but it is something people just need to keep in mind before they reply.

That's interesting about the popcorn guy. I always thought it was kind of obnoxious, like those kids in high school who would immediately scream "girlfight!" when there was an altercation in the hallway. So it is interesting to read how people intend it.

Nothing does. I must stop telling the truth about pool hopping and Disneys attitude on it before I get another ban. The truth is considered wrong on here.

I hear ya! But seriously, I use those resort buses and no one ever checks me or my family to see if we are actually staying on the resort.

In all the years we have been going to Disney we have only seen one id check even then they bipassed us. Have never seen them check people who are in the pools, just those sitting around. When we were there last month there were no checks at any of the pools we went to.

Alot of times emoticons, like the bored happy face are also used to bump a a slow moving thread up to the top to get more people to view it.

You are so right Mickeyluv'r! I have seen a few posts where people have actually sarcastically said things like "I guess I'm not as clever as you." The one that comes to mind is the one thread I saw on how to maximize fastpasses. I read a lot of things I disagree with, but unless I feel I can help with a suggestion, I avoid posting just to pass judgement...not that hard to avoid.

Many of these people seem to act like the "own" Disney just because they visit often, or they post a lot on these boards or something, which gives them the authority to enforce their version of how to comport yourself while visiting.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you were not banned for "telling the truth about pool hopping". You were probably banned for encouraging other posters to break Disney's rules. Which is against Disboard policy.

I'm not sure why you think the rules don't apply to you. And I am certainly not jealous of you! I actually feel kind of sorry for you, because I am sure that Karma will get you one day.

They don't check ID's on the resort buses, but many resorts do random ID checks at the pool, and ask those without the proper ID to leave.
