Pool Hopping Changes at Wilderness Lodge

Silver Creek Springs pool at Disney's Wilderness Lodge has been added to the list of resort swimming holes that are excluded from the DVC member pool hopping perk.

I personally think it is time to end it all. The list of exclusions has become greater than those included, which makes it way out of balance and unfair.

Well, with the second pool closed, it makes sense.

I am actually surprised GF is still hoppable.

I think that the growing list of restricted pools is Disney's way of taking the perk away.

I posted this elsewhere but am fine with it staying. It's always been a benefit with a lot of rules (blackouts, pools limited etc), but I also think it's a benefit that I believe only a few take advantage of and I don't think they overwhelm the pools that are left on the list. Then it's packing up, going to another pool, cleaning up, coming back. Overall a bit of work to use. But it gives sales people a talking point that at the time might sound good. It doesn't bother me that it still remains even if they take it down to one pool remaining on the list.

That is assuming that it's one of those benefits that DVC doesn't pay anything to anybody for as it isn't tracked.

Given the timing, I'd say it's better than even odds the new VWL pool will remain on the non-hopping list, as if it were just during the construction cycle then they'd have put the pool on the list when late spring/early summer approached. I've never taken advantage of the pool hopping perk (for all the reasons KAT mentions above), and it may be a perk whose time is short. Then again, as KAT also mentioned, it is a nice, though small, selling point for agents.

I don't see Disney taking this perk away. It costs them $0 and is primarily for the sales people to be able to tell prospective members how elite and special the DVC members are. As long as they keep GF open, that will remain a nice sales pitch part for those people who would never be able to stay at the Grand Floridian.

Edited to add: Looks like Kathy and Sleepy beat me to the punch on this. I agree with both their posts. :)

I think part of the reason may be that the new fences that require a MB to open the gates may make it difficult for their computer system to tell who is allowed to hop and who isn't.

Our sales person didn't even mention the pool hopping perk at all to us. I knew about it from my research though.

We'd most likely never use that perk anyways - I'm the only one who enjoy pools anymore in my family. Sigh.........

You are forgetting all the non dvc pools you could go to. If not for the love bugs our day seming at csr while staying at okw would have been perfect.

Yeah glad to hear this!! It's about time and agree. Just make it no pool hopping for all resorts.

I'm fine with making pools exclusive to guests booked at the resort.

Did not know about this perk. Which pools are hoppable?

All the Moderate and Value resort pools are hoppable. Also, the Grand Floridian Pool. There's a list on the member web site under Perks along with the restrictions.

Also BWV/BWI (3?), SSR (5), OKW (4?), FW, the CR pool, the quiet pool at YC and it also looks like the leisure pool at BC. With the All stars, POR, CBR, CSR and POP there are still quite a few that can be hopped to - more than are restricted.

Not in the DVC family though. Only BWV, SSR and OKW. I personally don't think it is fair to give those staying at restricted resorts access to pools that are not restricted but those staying BWV, SSR or OKW can't use their pool. I think it should work both ways.

I'm not quite understanding as the hopping perk for DVC members is to resort pools as well. My guess is that it is up to the resorts themselves. And the ones that allow it either feel it doesn't cause undue burden and/or they want to have additional guests there that may generate revenue. Just my guess though. I can't say that I've every had difficulties at BWV, OKW or SSR with over crowding and that the "benefit" is much more of a selling point than actually used. The few pools that were popular for it have perhaps pulled out. For WL/VWL, I'm doubtful it was legitimate hoppers anyway. Hidden Springs was a favorite for me but feel the main pool is just so, so at best when comparing to other main pools and their slides.

I agree. I've been told that most of the pool hoppers at VWL/WL were from the campground. Pools there are relatively "vanilla" - not much of a theme relative to most of the resort hotels. So WL/VWL feature pool would be attractive & relatively convenient for a lot of campers. :)

When you pool hop are you allowed to park at that resort ??
What do you have to do to pool hop ... Just show your membership card, id and magic band ??

Technically, no. You are supposed to take Disney transportation. (Doubt many do, though).

Again, technically, you are supposed to call the resort ahead of time and ask if the pools are at capacity. (Doubt many do. The few who have reported trying to call, get mostly confused CMs who know nothing about the perk). No need to show anything unless asked.

IMO, it's a lot more trouble than it's worth as to me, a pool is a pool is a pool. However, there are some who enjoy this perk, and if you think you will, too, go for it. :)
