I contacted DVC and got the blackout times for pool hopping for 2008.

Thank you for contacting Member Services.

Here are the Pool Hopping Blackout Dates for 2008:

February 17 - 23 (Sun - Sat)
March 15 - 29 (Sat - Sat)
May 23 - 26 (Fri - Mon).
June 28 - July 5 (Sat - Sat)
August 29 -September 1 (Fri - Mon)
November 24 - 30 (Mon - Sun)
Dec. 14, 2008 - Jan. 4, 2009 (Sun - Sun)

What does pool hop actually mean in this case. We are staying in BWV in June--where can we hop.

Also, can you hop anywhere from AKV??

DVC members are allowed to "pool hop" to any of the Disney World properties, with the exception of two...AKL and Stormalong Bay pool at the Beach Club. Otherwise, bring your DVC membership card with you (as long as its not a black out date) and you can pool hop at all the other resorts.

Eek, this thread could have been titled a little better. At first I thought you meant all pool hopping had been blacked out for this year.

Around the holidays. OK, no problem.

i thought the same thing it should be black out dates of 08.

Members are not allowed to pool hop to any YC/BC/BCV pool, not just SAB.

so the quiet pools are off limits too, I did not know that. Good thing I'm a BCV member:thumbsup2 . I thought it was just SAB all this time.

thanks for posting the dates. I don't find myself pool hopping as much as I did when the kids were smaller. It was always our afternoon lunch break closest to whatever park we were visiting at the time. Now they don't seem to get up before noon, so it just doesn't matter!!!:rotfl2:

You need to take your room keys and your member IDs. You need to prove that you're a DVC member, and that you're currently staying at a DVC resort.

Technically, you're supposed to stop at the front desk to check that it's ok to hop at that time, as the pool may be too crowded. The problem is, most front desk CMs at non-DVC resorts don't seem to know what you're talking about. If you want to follow the letter of the law and ask first, take your Member Perks booklet to proove to them that this perk exists.

Technically you're supposed to call ahead and get permission but the trouble is that when you do no one ever has factual information. Often they don't even know that members can PH and if they do, they don't have factual up to date info on whether it's OK or not at the time. Still, give the set up, one could call and be given the correct "it's OK" only to have things fill up in the interim and be denied access when you arrive. I suspect we'll eventually see the end of PH.

Do they actual check for membership? I have never been stoped or asked when entering the pool area. We have not PH before but reading this was just thinking if they do who asks etc?

Yes on our BWV visits in particular they have asked to see our room ID. Not always pool staff either, but sometimes shirt and tie guys check.

Stormalong Bay will always require your ID and provide wrist bands on you.

My home is BCV.But if,like last year,I stayed at SSR,I could still use the BCV pools? Even though I am not staying there?

No, you need to be checked into BCV in order to use SAB during your stay.

no-you must be staying there on points to use it.

It doesn't matter at all where you own your points. It only matters where you are staying when you are using your points. Likewise, if you are a DVC member, but not staying on points at a DVC resort, you can't pool hop.

On paper, that is correct. In reality, "illegal" hopping it goes on all the time at all the pools at BVC. If I had a nickel for everyone I've seen splashing around SAB without a wristband on (while CMs do nothing) I could have retired by now.

To the OP, I have to come back and respectfully disagree about the BC pools now. I just finished reading the new DVC magazine and they specifically state that the pool hopping is not allowed at the Uzima pool and SAB only. They do not state that the BC/YC quiet pools are off limits. I thought that was interesting, given our discussion here.

A while ago this came up and clarification was given via emails to member services that all YC/BC/SAB was included in the no hop policy.

There are times when they only list SAB and other times when they spell it out further. Here is the current quote from the website.
Pool hopping is not available at Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts or at the leisure pools of these two Resort hotels. There are no exceptions to this policy.
