I keep hoping that some of the resorts with less exciting pools will undergo expansions. Are such wishes a good thing, or should I be content with the way things are today?

(I always wanted to open a pool hoping thread).

well the AKL will get a nicer one at AKV.

if the CRV becomes a reality - it will also have one. Mickey Mouse head.:cool1: :thumbsup2 :lmao:

jerry say there were 2 pools - but I think the other is the hot tub. It is BIG too.

who else do you want?

I wish - as long as it's deeper than the one on the DCL ships;)

A lazy river at all DVC properties is a must-do imo.

While i'm dreaming, why not an indoor pool too lol.

You could argue that bringing them all up to speed would eliminate any need for pool hopping.

Wishes do come true! The looks of the AKV's pool looks awesome to me.

As long as it's a REAL lazy river, not like that thing at SAB. Circle the entire resort.

Ok You guys have my vote , do whatever need be done to add a lazy river to any DVC and I'm buying <G>

Every summer I try to convince my family to let me put in a lazy river in our backyard , but no luck yet !!!

Agreed... I don't understand why a SAB pool is not typical to all new resorts. A lazy river in the back yard... wow... how cool would that be.... Have you taken them to SAB?

Duh, I just reread your title to the thread. I've been so used to seeing dinning and other spelling errors that I just missed the "pool hoping" instead of pool hopping. Good play on words. :thumbsup2

B/c of the number of lifeguards required and the high maintenance costs. Too expensive.

OMG.. the cost of lifeguards (CMs) is minimal to say the least. Labor is the smallest part of the whole cost. If I were a manager of any resort... I would demand a SAB pool.., but then, I am not a manager of any resort....so I only project my thoughts...

That's what I tend to think, too, Rob. However, every time this comes up, folks point out that Disney has said it will never build another SAB due to cost of staffing and maintaining a pool of that caliber. :confused3

And let's face it...if you were the manager of a resort, you would so NOT demand an SAB-type pool....you would demand one of those fancy new surfing wave pools! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Absolutely, it's a natural. An AIR-CONDITIONED indoor pool! What could be more of a natural for Orlando?

Where are those Imagineers when we really need them?

I don't think so. I think it would just leave us hoping for more hopping.

Thank you Deb! I was hoping (or hopping) someone would say that before I did. Lazy river? How 'bout a lazy little circle? A la duck guano!

Regardless of whether anyone thinks the cost of the manpower at SAB is minimal, Disney doesn't and therefore won't build another SAB. Add to that maintenance costs and insurance and they are not going to cover that cost again.

In addition to the additional manpower, a pool such as SAB requires water park certified lifeguards and there is not enough of them to go around, year round to cover such pools.

So wish all you want, it won't happen at Disney again. Sorry but true.

In addition to what Sammie said, add SAB-like pools to all Disney resorts and the impact on admissions at TL and BB would be dramatic. Paying $40 per head for one day at a waterpark is a lot harder to justify when you have access to the next best thing for free.

I don't have a pool so I don't know what the costs are.

Heat
Chemicals

- these you'd have at the smallest Disney community pool - but the costs would go up in relation to the size of the pool.

Lifeguards
Liability Insurance

I'd think both of these would be more significant at SAB than any other pool.

Double duh! I didn't realize it said "pool hoping" until this post! I was wondering why the thread title was about pool hopping being wrong!

But why would Disney care if the pool is expensive to upkeep? If it's a DVC pool, member pay the upkeep. Heck, as Disney's management fee is a flat percentage of actual costs, it's actually slightly in their interest to have an expensive pool.

Call me a cynic, but I don't think Disney is rejecting uberpools because they are concerned about member's future maintenance fees. It might have to do with either

1) People spending all day at the resort pool aren't spending money at Disney theme parks and shops.

2) Not wanting to undermine the deluxe non-DVC resorts (folks paying GF prices don't want to see people with better amenities than they have).

I agree with both of these.

remember Disney is a business. not just a hotel or timeshares management.

if you want a great pool that is what TL and BB are designed to be.

Disney doesn't care that it cost you more money. It goes to their bottom line.

as far as GF getting jealous - too late - my opinion the pools at Polyn plus of course bc/yc are so much better than the new one for GF. GF is not even on the list.

but hey it is fun to dream - what if!!!
