Pool Floats?

Whenever I see a picture of pools at the resorts, I never see any floats in the pools. I was wondering, are these allowed? It would be nice to have a small float to float around in the pool on, but I can understand if they are banned. Thanks in advance!

I don't know if they are allowed or not but I did see a couple children with small blow up tubes when we were at our resort quiet pool.

Not allowed. The only exception is a small flotation device for an infant, but that can't have a sun shade, and some lifeguards won't allow them either. You can wear coast guard approved life vests.

Do you mean an adult-sized raft or chair that you can float around on? No, those aren't allowed. Part of the problem is crowding; the pools get packed enough without having rafts and such in there. The other issue is that they'll block the view of the lifeguards. The lifeguards need to be able to see all parts of the pool clearly, in case someone's having trouble in the water.

I was thinking more of an adult sized float that looks like a yoga mat- the soft thin ones. I definitely wouldn't put a large chair in there as I figured those wouldn't be allowed.

Our local city pools will not allow adult sized floating devices because of crowding. They won't allow kids to wear floaty arm bands because they say it hampers kids learning to swim. They do allow life jackets on children using lazy river type attractions that also allow inner tubes. From what I have seen Disney follows similar policies.

You cannot have the mat to float on but can use a pool noodle.

The lifeguards need to be able to see the floor of the pool at all times. Floats block that view. That's why the rings at Stormalong Bay are clear. Life vests are fine and are available for free in bins by the pools.

My son wore one of the puddle jumpers- they're not restrictive, but are also Coast Guard approved.

No lifeguard at the quiet pool so you should be find with the inflatable arm floaties. The life vests aren't really that restrictive if you pick the correct size. My kids used them in the main pool with no problem.

Please know that the arm-band style floaties provide a very false sense of security. They are not safe. They can actually end up forcing a child's arms over her head with the head under water. This is why many pools do not allow them. As a former lifeguard, I strongly suggest getting rid of them and using either the Sterns puddle jumper a PP mentioned or a life vest, both of which are USCG approved. A properly fitting life vest should not be too restrictive for a child to play and swiim.
