You are a true hero MK199! I bet that this is one vacation that you will never forget, nor will the child or their family.

MK199, as others have said thank you!!! Parents - please watch your own children. I see too many parents there getting "too comfortable" just leaving lifeguards to watch their children on vacation. They can't possibly see everything. I only say this because my BIL and SIL went to get a drink while their DD5 was in the pool. Luckily, nothing happened. Not saying that is what these parents did. Maybe I'm just a worry wort but I still don't allow my DD7 to swim alone. I am not passing judgement here, I know bad things can happen even when you're watching - just asking others please be mindful of where your children are in the pool. Way to go MK199.:goodvibes

mk199 is being humble.
the story goes one of our own disers was the hero.
mk199 was at the pool, mk199 is also a firefighter paramedic of about 15 years. he currently is a rescue captain for a fire dept in broward county.
anyhow he saw the lifeguards scurying and ran to help. when he made it to the lifeguards they were pulling a lifeless and blue body from the pool by the slide area. they had not seen teh child go down just realized he was there. he quickly took the child from the lifeguards being the highest ranking medical official on scene and the child was pulseless and breathless he started cpr with one other person. after 5 minutes the child started breathing but did not regain consciouness. a couple minutes later after oxygen therapy the child started to come around and wake up. but was very lethargic. however mk199 good job hold your head high.

Congratulations on a Job well done Mike!!!!:cheer2::flower3:, Thank God for people like you!!!! You made a difference in their lives!!:yay:

The 5 year old was found drowned at the bottom of the pool. He was removed and cpr was done for approx 5 minutee and he was revived and taken to the hospital.
I was informed by the sherrifs office that. He was released the next day.

Right person, right place, right time! Wow, thank you for sharing this.

Nice job mk199!

Had to come out of lurking to congratulate mk199 on his rescue. Nice to hear happy outcomes. :thumbsup2

Dang ! What a story !
So when his friends ask, "how was your vacation",
he'll be saying,
"Great ! I died and came back to life at Disney World !"

Your an awesome dude mk199,,thank you,:thumbsup2

I just cant help but wonder,,where were his parents ? :confused3

Hats off to you my friend.party:

And now I'm even more disappointed, as a former Vol, FF/EMT, that whenever we stopped at 545 last week you were out and about.

I appreciate all you comments . As my brothervstated earlier, I do this forbade living, and I am glad that I wae in the right spot at the right time. So many times the outcome is the opposite of this one. As firefighters we never truly let our guard down, wether we our working or not. I am just very happy for the outcome of this story. Now I have to go finish my blood orange margarita in mexico

To. The goofteoopfla, thanks bro, that's what we do.
Chalk one up for the good guys.

no problem bro good job as always the family is proud of you. when you ge backk home i will buy you some kungaloosh for a job well done. and he is still at 545 they leave tommorrow. of course he is over at epcot so god knows what shape he will be in on his return.

MK199 what a hero you are!! Just because you do this for a living does not make you any less of a hero for doing it!! Especially when you jump in while on your vacation! Way to go!:thumbsup2

I think the Lifeguard thing is why I don't go to Disney (or any other) resort pools that much. I've been a trained lifeguard since I was 15 and every time I go to a pool, I feel like I'm not enjoying myself cause I'm always watching all the other guests. I get to the pool, and instantly I'm in "lifeguard mode".

From what I've observed, Disney lifeguards are actually pretty good and have the same "rules" that I've been trained to enforce, but a lot of other places don't, and it drives me crazy what folks get away with. The one thing they don't do though is the lifeguard to swimmer ratio. My current certification (BSA) requires one guard for every 10 swimmers, plus an overall lookout. Honestly, it really is impossible for 1 lifeguard to monitor 50+ swimmers.

I think as the PP stated that is what the parents are for. But then again I fall in the same boat as you with tons of BSA training.
