MK199, Great job!! I have been a continuously certified lifeguard for 26 years. I manage a pool every summer and fortunately I have never faced the situation you did--and I pray I never do. The pain you feel in your heart and the rush of adrenaline when you look at the bottom of the pool to see a child underwater that you didn't see how they got there is awful. Fortunately all my experiences I have gotten to the child in time or they come up after holding their breath and playing their game. I for one will be praying for the child, his family, you, and those lifeguards as the shock wears off. I have only glimpsed the guilt and grief the parent and guards are dealing with, Thank the Lord it worked out. I am glad you and the person who assisted you were there to use your training for a happy ending! You are a hero!
To ClKelly, have you ever had the parent look at you like you were crazy when you told a child not run in the local Walmart or around the resort deck? Some habits are hard to break. I personally don't get as much enjoyment going to the pool as I used to, it is a busman's holiday for sure.
MK199, my doctor friend revived a person in Victoria and Albert's after a heart attack. His whole vacation was "comped" I hope Disney does the same for you!
