Ok, so I'm coming to grips with the Dumbo closure. Now, I am wondering about the Astro Orbiter. I will confess that I am of Pooh size, as is all of our traveling party except for my DS. In all the times I've been to WDW, I have never ridden the Asto Orbiter because I have heard that it is a bit difficult to get in/out of when you are large.
Is it the same at DL? Any feedback would be helpful! I don't want to be the fat lady that got stuck and had to have Cast Members remove her!:scared:
Thanks.

Well I am not small after 3 kids and I fit in it just fine with my other two in front of me. If you are able to sit side by side with your child and still fit in Dumbo, I would think you will fit fine one in front of the other on Astro Orbiter.

Never had problem at that when I was a size 24/26 , hope that helps!

It's not fitting in Astro Orbitor that's a worry, it's GETTING IN & OUT that's hard. It's a bit akward to climb in and out of those spaceships. I always wonder if everyone looks as silly as I do. Then I look around, and yep, they do!:rotfl:

How about the silly girls in heals and miniskirts :rotfl: . How do they do it? I have a hard time in my sneakers! everyone is silly at DL , don't sweat it!

FWIW, the Astro Orbiters at DL are different than MK - in a sense. In the late 90's Disney made one of its dumbest decisions ever and removed the "Rocket Jets" from a location at DL which was comparable to the one currently at MK down to the ground near the entrance of Tomorrowland (and renamed them Astro Orbiters). And they added some rock structures nearby just to make sure it was so narrow through there visitors would have to run a gauntlet to get in and out of Tomorrowland.

The orbiter vehicles themselves at DL are comparable to the ones at MK and thus probably just as easy (or difficult) to enter and exit.

Astro Orbitor is one I had trouble with. No problem getting in - but getting out was downright embarrassing!!! If you are over a size 24W, I wouldn't go there!

Wow! Never thought of it this way and I was a size 18/20 for a long time! I guess I just don't care what people think since I'll never see them again. Also I am too busy with my kids to watch other people trying to get out of their rocket. But I am one of those that never notices screaming kids, celebrities, people making out, etc. because I am just too busy having fun with my family. Probably why I've never noticed anyone from that darn dream squad either!

I hope you won't let it stop you from experiencing it with your son! At the end of the day, he's the only one that will notice you went on it with him! Please don't feel uncomfortable, I really really doubt you will get stuck. But I do understand because they are tricky to get out of no matter what size you are. I hate the way they kinda lean to the side, and the seatbelts only make it worse. Trust me, once I wedge myself inside there, I ain't goin nowhere!!!

Andrea

Maybe thats why I can't remember having any trouble also. But I do notice the more I ride that and Star tours I sure get more dizzy as I get older! I totally agree in not thinking about what others think of you, I am my own worst critic! I am happy doing things with my family , and as long as my butt is covered I am ok!

Also, watch out for the hooks for the seatbelts. I diddnt notice it the first ride, but all the subsequent rides, the hook was digging into my legs the whole time!!! (and yes, I have big 'ol fat legs!) Boy did that hurt! I agree that getting out is the hardest part is getting out, there is NO being graceful there!

No, now what's embarrassing is when you're so used to rides like Dumbo that you think you'll be able to get on all the rides that go up and round and round like that!

At Marine World in CA, I tried to get my big butt on this little air plane ride. Having a real hard time, finally the person working the ride comes over to tell me it's for kids only! DOH!! Boy did I turn a nice shade of red! But I'll blame it on me being used to riding everything at Disneyland! :) My husband on the other hand found it very funny, and I can't live it down yet!

I just couldn't figure it out, I knew I needed to lose some weight, but wow! LOL ;)

Just for the record... I don't think it matters how big or small one is because let's put it this way, my mom is a 14 and she looked as if she was falling out as she was trying to get into the stupid rocket, getting out took forever and we had to help her. Now I rode it with DS7 and I'm a size 4, I straight up FELL getting out of it. It's a death trap I tell ya! And everyone saw my dumb self, and I could have cared less, they should have made those things better. My DH was on the ground laughing at me along with my dad.

Well...I can "fall" into the Astro Orbiter pretty easily....

...crawling out is another story :rotfl:

I was just going to post about the same thing. I'm a size 8/10 and I have fallen out of these things several times. Mostly due to my own clumsiness and lack of coordination. It also seems like I'm always the last one out and everyone is waiting on me. I just laugh my head off everytime I do it (yes there have been several instances). I never let it bother me or ruin my day.

Who cares what you will look like in front of other people. The point of DL is to have a great time with friends and family. That is what you will remember. I say go for it. You'll have fun! It seems people of all sizes have challenges getting in and out of this ride. :rotfl:

Wow! Thanks for the feedback everyone! It seems like the one at DL is as difficult to get out of as the one at WDW. I remember a post a long time ago on the WDW boards that described the Astro Orbiter with taking longer to get out of the ride than it's duration of flight. I still don't know if I'll brave it, but I sure have enjoyed reading the posts!:rotfl:

I am a size 12/14 and have a hard time on the rockets. I think a lot of the problem is having long legs and being tall, too. Like everyone has said, getting out is the hardest part. I don't ride them anymore because I feel like I am too big for them. Not fat mind you, just too big all around. DD sat in front of me and my legs were literally wedged on the sides and it was uncomfortable. You can watch people in line get on and off and make your own decision as to whether or not you ride. It's not really a big deal, but if you are going to stress about it, I would just pass. :upsidedow

when I was at my heaviest I could not fit in the dragon swing at Knott's , it still makes me soo sad when I think of that day:sad1:
