I would love to ride the carousel at the MK but I'm a pooh sized gal and I'm thinking I might be too heavy. What do you think is the maximum weight those beautiful ponies can handle?

Not a problem at all.

Go for it!

If you are still concerned once you get there, you just sit on when of the benches on the carousel and still enjoy the ride. (But I think you should go for it and ride the horse!) :thumbsup2

Okay, I did not find anything about Cindy's carousel specifically. But, from what I googled, the typical weight limit of a carousel is 175 lbs. One of our local amusement parks has one where the limit is 200 lbs. That said, I am sure we have all seen people much larger than that on carousels, so the capacity is probably greater.

I think out of sheer politeness, even if there is a weight limit, if you are somewhat even remotely in the vicinity of the weight limit, they are not going to ask you your weight or recommend you not ride. Now, I don't know what the cutoff would be, if there is some point where they have to say, "You know you should probably ride on the bench" but I would say as long as you are within reason, you will be fine and dandy.

As Robo said, go for it.

Many "Pooh" people ride the carousal. Go and enjoy!

Lat year when we went I was 251 and I rode it no problem. This is your vacation no matter the size your body is. Enjoy yourself. I did find that I was more comfy on the bench. Even loosing the weight I have I still like the bench.

I'm guessing there is no need to recommend people over the weight limit not ride a horse and sit on the bench. I'm no skinny Minnie and I will tell you they are hard to get on! I am guessing if I had another 50lbs I wouldn't be able to get on without help.

Just saying.

So I say if you can get yourself on a horse go for it!

I cant believe that. My husband and boys have been on the carousel millions of times and they all weigh over 200lbs and are thin! DS16 is 6'3", weighs 220and wears a size 32/34 pants. Hes not even close to being too big for the carousel!

I say if you can get your leg up over the saddle..hold on and enjoy the ride!

I say, Giddyup!! I dare Disney Cast Members to ask me what I weigh before I get on the carousel, lol! (Even though I totally and completely respect the super hard work all the CM's do--I know I couldn't do it as well!!) :rotfl:

Oh I totally agree......to a point. I thought the estimate was rather low. But, perhaps the manufacturer was thinking the ride would be mostly kids, and it was just easier and cheaper to only allow for the average American male's weight capacity. (I am not a mechanic or engineer, but I am sure there is something to do with the mechanics/engineering of a ride's weight limit that smarter people than I, understand)

I think they probably overcompensate, knowing that people will always try to push the limits. So, if a weight limit is legitimately 250 lbs, they may say 175. Likewise, if say 300 lbs is the max capacity that the ride should run at, you know that people 350-400 lbs will try to get on. So, they kind of have to underestimate.

Where I somewhat disagree with you is.....if you can get on it, ride it. Well, okay.....again, to a point. I think if it is going to put a strain on the ride, even if it will work, it still might put a strain on it. I am not saying the OP will; what I am saying is if a 600 lb person is able to get up onto the horse, well good for them, BUT if they are not designed to carry that much weight, it will be strained. Furthermore, what you have to remember is several horses are attached to the same rotational mechanism, and if your weight is so much that it cannot circulate, neither can the other horses in your row. That's why I said that "within reason" it should be fine.

OP, they DO have horses locked in that don't go up and down; those may be an option for you, if you are still concerned.

:lmao: This reminds me of an incident this past winter where my fiance and I decided to ride the carousel just before MK closing, which we've done many times without issue, but this time I was dead tired. The carousel was kinda crowded and when we finally found two together, they had stopped hiiiiiiiiiiigh up in the air. Well Mr. 6'3" had no problem hopping onto his, but as for me....the horse's saddle was about level with my head and I had NO upper arm strength left at that point in the night. I had one foot in the stirrup but just sorta hung there for a few minutes while DF leaned over from his other horse saying "you can do it! just throw your leg over!" until he saw it was fruitless and wound up getting off his horse so we could exit the carousel. Ahhh, Disney memories! :wizard:

well I am over those weights and rode it in June no prob,, I always look for low horses to get on, LOL,, BUT if you are worried ITA with PP ride the bench one

DH weighs in at about 300lbs. He rides just about everything. He won't ride the carousel anymore though. In '97 we decided to ride the carousel. When he got on the horse it was low, near the ground and he had no problem getting on. When the ride stopped, however, it was at its highest point. While trying to dismount, his foot slipped off the stirrup and he landed flat on his back. He was okay except he was so embarrassed and now he won't even attempt it. I told him we didn't know anyone there and not to worry about it. I even offer to ride the bench with him but i guess the memories haunt him.

Wow, well I think I will give it a try!!! Without giving away my weight, I do weigh between 200-250lbs. Sounds like I'll be ok. I'm sure the carousel at MK is a lot sturdier and better built than the ones at the local amusement parks, know what I mean? I was riding the one at my local 6 Flags last night and it was all torn up and the horses were in need of a paint job(some of them had paint just splashed on the seat, pathetic looking)and I never would've trusted getting on that thing as light weight and rickety as it looked. That thought is what prompted this post. I saw my children riding and having fun and I wanted to remember what it was like to have the wind in my hair, riding up and down on the horses. I know my husband will get a kick out of pooh sized me on my carousel horse LOL but I don't care who else will! Thanks everyone I love this board sooo much!!!

I googled the question and found one website that said riders reported that it could hold atleast 400lbs.

As others have said, your biggest problem may be getting on and off the horse. I'm heavier than you, and getting on and off was my only problem. I picked a horse pretty low to the ground, and as the ride was slowing down I was just hoping and praying it wouldn't end up at the highest point. Of course, it did stop at the highest point. I just took a few seconds to secure my footing and hand hold, then made my way down. It was all in all a magical experience. pixiedust:
