Pooh-sized ladies... clothing shopping vent!

I love the Just My Size jeans....not the stretch ones....just the regular ones. Oh...and I found some really nice work clothes at Lane Bryant....granted they can be really expensive. I usually don't like Lane Bryant though because not only do they have clothes that are too trendy for me they also would only look good on someone a size 10 or smaller.

I'm not Pooh sized, but I am a professional in my mid-40s, so I feel entitled to rant about clothing, too! I wish that the clothing manufacturers would go to the mall and look at the women passing by and see how actual adult women are built, then make stylish clothing for them. You know what? We'd buy them, and then they'd make a lot of money. Is that so hard for them to grasp?

Has anyone else noticed that Lane Bryant pants are getting smaller? I lost almost 20lbs. My old LB pants are loose, but when I try on the new pants at the store- the same size is so tight I can barely breathe in some cases.

And I wish they wouldn't have so many stretch pants. I don't care for pants that emphasize every bulge, thank you very much. And I also wish they would sell more tops that are flattering to those of us over blessed in the bust dept.

I am also a petite plus, and have great luck with jeans at Target. The Cherokee jeans have some give to them, and come in petite sizes for their entire size range.

I have had alot of luck at Dress Barn Woman, Target, and JC Penney. Dress Barn has alot of nice sweaters and pants, but not so many jeans. I like the shirts at Target.

I was over 40 years old before I discovered that I am a petite. At over 350 pounds a petite? LOL Seems my legs are shorter than average and that is why petite pants fit me fine while others do not.

It has long been a source of frustration to me that many styles that would look nice on Pooh sized women do not come in our sizes while bike shorts, bikinis, crop tops and other "made for sticks" things do.

Hatred of polyester and Lane Bryant, with their high prices, low styles and just plain rotten service have driven me to take drastic measures. I have lost about 90 pounds. LOL

SG/Linda

I'll join this.

1. I am Pooh sized and my arms are too! Why is everything sleeveless????

2. I am Pooh sized but that does not mean that my breasts are each the size of my head.

Thank you :p

Congratulations, SG, on your loss! That's amazing.

I'm putting in another vote for The Avenue. Love their styles! The stuff they're putting out now for fall is beautiful.

My weight flucuates quite a bit. Avenue's size 14/16 still fits me even when I can squeeze into a 12 from other stores. Many of their slacks come in petite, average and tall. I'm 5'4" and buy the average. It's actually just long enough--I think it should be a little longer, but hey, nothing's perfect.

BTW, if you get their credit card, they send you coupons galore. I get coupons all the time for shopping on their website that I never use. I like to hang out at the mall and shop there; I don't want to send away for clothes.

Anyway, if any of you want to try the Avenue's on-line store, PM me and I'll pass along my coupons.

Now going to Lane Bryant stores - they must think everyone likes to dress like a teenager because that's the clothes they have in their stores.

I hate that. About the only thing I buy at Lane Bryant any more is their underwear. I love their panties, they hold up so well in the wash. Once in a while they will have a decent sweater, but most of their stuff is too tendy for me- I go for the classics.

I'm going to chime in here too. I'm not pooh sized anymore -not bragging - I lost it due to major illness, surgeries, etc. I went from a 1X to a Medium - but I don't recommend doing it the way I did it!

I always thought that it would be great to go out and buy clothes if I ever lost any weight. WRONG - most everything is teensy, tiny and skin tight. There is no such thing as a professional dress anymore - it's either a little "slip" dress or a sack.

When I was larger I did buy some clothes from QVC on TV. They make almost all of their clothes up to 3X and don't charge extra for the larger sizes.

One thing that bothers me with pooh-sized clothing is the length of long sleeves. Just cuz I'm short and have a round tummy does not mean my knuckles are scraping the ground :(
Every winter (all 6 - 8 weeks down here!) I have to roll up the sleeves of every sweater or long sleeved shirt I put on.
I complained about the length of sleeves once to a friend who responded that if I'd just lose weight like she had, I wouldn't have that problem anymore. Come to think of it, I haven't seen her for a long time! :jester: I have a long torso compared to my arms and legs. I've had this complaint ever since I've been an adult.

Fashion Bug has nice pooh size women's clothing we also own Lane Bryant and Catherine's our prices are a little cheaper

I agree with clothes shopping being a big pain to deal with. I have been looking for a navy blue or black, conservative, business suit to wear to job interviews and I might be lucky to find one sometime in the next year. Do plus size women not need a suit ever? I have tried different catalogs, and have not had success. If you are able to find something close, it is cheap, thin polyester material with out a lining. OR the sleeves are so long I would have to practically have it remade in order for it to fit properly. I may be bigger around, but I am not a monkey so there for my knuckles do not touch the ground when I walk.

I hate to buy clothes out of a catalog....why should I pay extra for shipping when I am paying the same price for the clothing as they are in the store. The price is the price in the store because they have figured in shipping, etc as a factor, it then makes it like paying double for shipping. Drives me crazy.

Since I will no longer order from the Jessica London catalog, that means I will not be purchasing from any other catalog the company owns, which includes Romans, Lane Bryant, Silloutes and Chadwicks. Not that I care much for those catalogs anyway because most of there stuff is just cheaply made polyester old fashion looking clothing.

Old Navy now is carrying Plus sizes online and in some stores. Eddie Buar has plus sizes in the catalog (and I think some stores). I mostly stick with Target and JC Penney's, but occasionally find somethings at the Avenue (although I find them to be very expensive), Hechts (same as Kaufmans), and Belk.

Sorry about the long vent, but it feels good to get it off my chest.;)

I was in Old Navy yesterday and they go up to size 20. THey actually had a lot of 20's in the store I went to. They also had a fairly decent selection of XL tops as well.

I love the Just My Size jeans, with just a little stretch. Land's End does custom jeans now, but I'm too cheap to spend the money. I like the Silhouettes and Ulla Popkin catalogs and web sites. It takes some trial and error to find the right fit, but they are both good for sleeves that are proportonal to my size. My big arms should not be exposed or squished into tiny skinny sleeves!

I usually find great stuff at Target, but recently got a pair of linen pants to match a top I got there that I really liked. I never bother to try things on, so
I got quite a surprise when I put them on to go to work. These pants were big enough to bring a friend in! I really wanted to wear the outfit and didn't realize until I got to work that they weren't really comfortable, just almost falling off!

Where were Lane Bryant's trendy teenage clothes when I was an actual teenager, trying desperately to find clothes that didn't look like I borrowed then from an elderly aunt? Now I'd feel totally silly in most of them, besides, I don't have any tattoos to show off in all those low cut jeans and short shirts.

For professional women, I'd suggest Dillards. You do have to look for their sales, but when you find one, it's great! They have great suits and professional clothes, instead of young girl clothes. I've found some wonderful things there.
I have to really search the other stores for work clothes....

I too have a hard time finding pants that will fit me properly.

I have the problem of them coming up to my breasts too, and then I tug them down and the crotch hangs around my knees:eek:

I have found that I need "Petite" Plus Size (sounds contradictory). They are made with a shorter rise and shorter legs and therefore fit me better. They are not easy to find though.

I also have the problem with the waist fitting good and then the legs are so big that I could almost fit 2 legs in each leg.

Wouldn't it be nice just to be able to find something that is properly proportioned and fits right ::yes::
Lane Bryant (store, not catalog) has Petite lenths in most of their pants. That's what I wear :) Land Bryant stores have more modern clothes....you can be in-style in proper sizes :)

I've also had good luck with tops at Casual Corner Annex Woman. I've not found Petite pants there, though, so I tend to stick to tops there. Nice clothes, well-made, stylish, classic looks.

Sears has nice lined suits in plus sizes. They have a lot of the same styles in plus size that they have in the standard sizes. It's where my mom gets her suits. One Christmas, we got matching suits (don't ask ;) ) and hers was plus and mine was standard, but same suit. She does have to hem the length of the pants and skirts because she has short legs. Overall though, excellent selection, lined, quality suits. Good luck!

Old Navy sells up to size 26 on-line. Don't know what styles you are looking for but they have some cute stuff. I buy most of my clothes at Lane Bryant, in the store, can't stand the catalog stuff (my granny wore those clothes ;) They seem to have either a lot of stuff I like at once, or nothing at all.
