ponchos - recommendations

I have the old WDW yellow ones that have lasted through 7 or 8 trips. We have used them on each trip. They are worth the money and we will be hauling them along for another trip this August.

Same here! in fact, last trip we "stood out" because all the other ones they were selling were clear plastic, with Mickey on the back! And we had our Yellow ones!

We bring them so we can protect the stroller from the rain with a poncho... I have also considered clear shower curtains to cover the stroller?
I am a weirdo I guess... yep I said it. :rotfl:

Hmm, good idea.

I did see someone with what looked like a clear lawn chair/grill cover that they used on their stroller. they had even put a grommet in it and had a lanyard attached to the handle.

We ended up ditching our 1.00 Walmart ponchos and buying Mickey ones instead. I read here on the DIS that the parks would replace a torn poncho at any time. Does anyone know if this is a fact?

Am I missing something? When we were there the a few years back, the Mickey ponchos that they were selling in teh gift shops were the same quality as wastebasket liners. Thin clear plastic. I was so glad I had my target $1 ones becasue they looked the same quality.

People are talking about reusing them for years? Do they have different ones that are better? Or was I wrong and the ponchos are better quality then they looked?

If it's very warm out - why bother - you sweat too much in a poncho - if it's cooler then a rain jacket.

The ones we got, over ten years ago, are a lot heavier thickness than a plasic bag and pretty durable. they have plastic snaps to change the size of the armholes. other than one small rip, that I mended with some clear tape and a mickey sticker, they are quite durable.

I have seen the really light ones, and they do look like a plastic bag with a hood attached!

I bought some at the Totes/Isotoner store at our area outlet mall for $4 a piece. They're heavier weight than the disposable ones and have the snaps down the sides. They came with a mesh bag to store them in. I haven't had a chance to test drive them yet, though.

We have had these ( in addition to the WDW ones) and they are very comparable.

At the end of May, when Orlando was having the major storms every afternoon, we bought a couple of these at Publix right off property. They worked beautifully! They reminded me of the old, yellow Mickey ponchos.

The old yellow ponchos were really heavy duty plastic.
The first year they had the clear ones (I think with Mickey on the back), they were pretty heavy duty.

The last two years, the clear ones have been a much thinner plastic. There are two different designs between last year and this year, but the plastic seems to be the same.

We seem to buy one new disney poncho each trip for whatever reason. We always lose someones poncho. I think that the newer ones in the park are more comfortable to wear- the plastic is less stiff, but they do seem really fragile.

I even have a couple of red World of Disney NYC ponchos that I'm quite fond of using b/c they stand out. They are akin to the yellow ones and are heavy duty.

I had two non-Disney ponchos that I had carried with us for YEARS and never used them. The time I left them at home, it rained the whole trip and we had to buy ponchos! Of course!

I just got a poncho at Kmart, for $5. It was in the women's purse area (by the umbrellas). Has its own bag to store it in. Going to try it in October.

It's a "Totes" brand poncho, and the material is heavier-weight and stiffer than what WDW ponchos are made of (which I think have gotten flimsier over the years) or cheap, disposable ponchos. I hate having to peel a wet, flimsy poncho off my legs every two steps -- and that's what I did on my last trip with my WDW poncho! I think, because this Totes one is made of a sturdier material, it won't cling so much.

We've used our totes ponchos twice this trip so far; once was in a horrible downpour. Everyone stayed dry, and no sticking to our legs. Nobody has had any rips so far :goodvibes

I bought mine on clearance at Target 3 years ago, and loaned them to a neighbor to take on her trip as well, and they are more like the jacket type that button down the front...I like them better because they are more form fitting...they also roll up and have their own bag to carry in. The kids have the poncho kind, and I always buy them on clearance when I see them, but never pay more than 2 or 3$...

We live pretty close to an outlet mall so I will check the Totes store - great idea!

Are you thinking a trip to Wrentham Outlets is in order? I'm going to look for these too, so I hope they have enough for both of us! (I only need 2)
