Ponchos Ponchos

Another tip is to look on eBay if you really want Disney ponchos. I bought ponchos that were never used from the Disney 100 Years of Magic for $3.00.

I swear by our Disney ponchos. We've had ours for over 10 years, bring 'em back every year, wear them at football games occassionally (well, I do, DH's too embarassed, he says). Best $5 (price when we bought them) we ever spent at WDW!

We buy the Mickey collapsible umbrellas at the parks...they're kept under the counters along side the ponchos. For a few extra dollars, we're able to have something to use after our vacation is over...and, they're easier to deal with at the parks getting on and off rides and stowing them away once the rain stops.

Murphy's Law - if you are that prepared to purchase them ahead of time and carry them with you in the parks - the odds of ever having to need them are slim to none!! :umbrella: I got ours for $0.99 at Wal-mart. They have adult and child sizes available.

I got my bright yellow ponchos at Target for $2.00 and they have made it down and back with me over 8 times. Thankfully, they are still in the package, never having been used!

Dripping wet Disney ponchos are not pleasant to deal with. We always bring a stack of disposables. When the rain stop, the poncho goes in the trash!

We had to use ponchos on our last two trips, here's my .02

The Disney ponchos are warmer and more durable but they are bulkier to carry around and pack.

The Target ponchos are cheaper, more compact and easier to carry in a backpack and of course disposable. But they didn't keep us as dry as the Disney ones and they even ripped when my kids got on and off rides.

Next trip we will take both, use the Disney ones for the heavy rain and carry the disposable ones when it is just a chance of showers.

We have been in some real downpours in Feb. though! :umbrella:

When we bought our Disney ponchos we were told that we can bring them back each year and if they rip or tear we can get a new one. My DGS has had to have a couple replaced with no questions asked.

Thank you gydell....never knew they would replace them! I've had mine for about 6 years now, and it's still going strong!

Just wondering if anyone knows this: I put the used Target poncho in the recycle bin at the M.K.. Do you think they recycle the plastic?? I hate the idea of folding up a wet poncho to re-use, that is why I like the .87 cent one at Target made by Coleman. They were pretty durable, and when new, they take up such little space.

I am going to "bump" up this discussion from 2005.

Where can I buy disposable ponchos (ahead of time) for my 3-year old little girl?

Thanks,
Yvette in Snellville, GA

I think your best bet would still be the cheap Coleman ponchos. They aren't long, and easy to tie up if you need to shorten it a little. They are very compact for carrying around. I stick it in my back pocket and don't even notice it.

Recycling plastic usually means it has to be the exact type of plastic that the area takes. I can't imagine that the ponchos are that plastic (soda bottle type, usually). And depending on the recycling facility, something tossed in like that can get EVERYTHING tossed in the garbage.

We have Disney ponchos and I'm bringing them back on their 3rd trip (4th for me) tomorrow. They are EASY to shake out and fold back up. EASY. We snag a bag from a nearby gift shop (or this trip I'm just bringing one from home) and put the shaken off and folded back up ponchos in the bag until we need them again! easy. :)

Dollar Tree has disposable ponchos for 2 for $1. We get 3 packs every trip and if we use them , we just throw them away afterwards. We buy extras because they also can be used for ECV or stroller covers

On our rare trips to the Dollar Store we always pick a couple of ponchos and glow sticks. We have quite a stash. Because they are so cheap we just throw them away or give them to people riding Kali River Rapids.

If a vote for McCain is a vote for Bush's third term then a vote for Obama would be a vote for Carter's second term!!!

We carry our older Disney ponchos - 1 yellow, 1 clear. We also carry the cheapos. As said before, if it looks like a hard rain, bring out the good gear. We even carry plastic pants. If it is just a passing chance, then it is easy to carry the cheapos for emergencies. We keep all our rain gear in a back pack, and the pack comes with us each trip. It has the pants, Disney ponchos, and 5 cheapos in the package. We are ready!! I had to tote the back pack 1 day for half a day. Not bad. Never had to use any of the gear.

Now you know why I was so excited on my post the other day, finding 4 Disney ponchos at our local 2nd hand store for 50 cents each! We have always brought the cheapos, they make todler size , but I usually just chopped off the bottom with scissors when the kids were smaller.
