Ponchos or no ponchos?

We are a family of 5, leaving in 1.5 weeks. If I bring ponchos, I will be the one having to carry them around in my backpack. Do I risk not bringing them or should I just get them (don't want to spend the amount they charge for them there)? What do you do?

I would carry ponchos. Yes, it's just one more thing to lug around the parks every day but with the likelihood of daily thunderstorms it's better to be prepared.

No suggestions from experience but we leave in a little over 2 weeks for our vacation. We are also a family of 5. I purchased 10 ponchos for our 8 day stay. They came in very small packages and weight practically nothing. I have chosen to be safe rather then sorry if we get caught in the rain! We are also planning on carrying a backpack with us throughout the day, and leaving the parks after lunch and going back after dinner, so hoping to miss the afternoon showers everyone talks about!

I'd get the small disposable ones at Walmart in the camping section. You can roll them up and use them again if you're careful. They are getting thundershowers frequently this summer.

Another vote to bring ponchos. We have brought them AND used them. I buy several cheap dollar ponchos prior to our trip

Bring them. Distribute them so everyone carries his or her own. Buy cheap nylon string cinch backpacks off Amazon for this purpose. Make everyone carry a hat, sunglasses, and poncho. Even little kids will be able to handle this. You will be glad you have them.

Go pick up some of the cheap/disposable (one time use) ponchos at Walmart/Dollar Store. IF there is a high chance of rain, take them. If not, leave them in your room. I prefer to take as little as possible.

I don't bring them, but I would much rather get wet with rain than walk around marinating in my own sweat in what is essentially one of those oven bags that you cook a turkey in.

That’s why I have a nylon poncho. It’s bulkier to carry, but I only take it to the parks if the rain chance is over 50%. Otherwise I just take a compact umbrella and plan to duck into buildings. I hate plastic ponchos.

Personally I always carry my Disney poncho in the summer at least because I am absolutely unwilling to get wet.

If you don't mind getting soaked or staying undercover while the storms pass then I guess go without if its gonna be that inconvenient for you to take them.

In August there will be a high chance daily. Potentially several high chances in one day.

We prefer rain jackets over ponchos. Each of us has invested in high quality North Face (or Columbia) rain jackets. They keep us dry, the hood stays up, and they have better ventilation. We carry these around when there is a high probability of rain.

We hate carrying things like this, so if the chance is slim or there's a pop-up shower and we don't have them on us, we just opt to buy the Disney ponchos in the park if we need to. I think they are roughly $10 or slightly less (if memory serves), and they are surprisingly good quality.

I live 50 miles north of WDW and we are having a VERY wet Florida summer. It has rained twice this afternoon hard for 15 minutes then the sun is back out hot and humid. I highly suggest you take ponchos. You can buy several ponchos at Walmart or Target for what 1 will cost at WDW. We always take our ponchos on day trips to WDW even if the morning starts out clear. Florida weather can change very quickly and it is best to be prepared :)

I love the rain in the Florida heat.

It chases away the snowflakes, reducing crowds. And if you wear quick drying clothes, it keeps you cool without being uncomfortable.

But with that said, I would by them now for a couple of dollars each instead of the 12 or 15 they charge in the park. And let someone else carry the bag for a while. Take turns.

I bring them to Florida but only take them with us days I am worried about a storm. If we are planning to be back to the park for the afternoon I usually don't bring them. I can't wear one for long but in a downpour I like to be covered.

When it was only my husband and I, we didn't bother with ponchos. We'd get rained on, even poured on, and then it would be 795 degrees and sunny again and we'd be dry in no time. ;) However, every extra kid is an additional opportunity for someone to find something to complain about, so with kids, we pack a few ponchos. :)

We are a family of 4.
I brought 20 disposable ponchos for our last trip (July 1-9, 2017) that I got at 5 Below for $1 each.
I ended up bringing ALL of them home (except for 2 my DD & I used on Kali Rapids). It never rained on us once entire trip!
