Poncho vs. Light jacket

Cruizen August 3rd and would like to know which one to take for adults and kids: Ponchos or Light jackets. Since it was raining heavily on Cozumel a couple of days ago, I realized that if we are on the beach, our light jackets will get soaked (that's what I was planning to take). Is there really a need for light jackets? If it's windy, it would be a warm wind, right? BTW, I refuse to take both; one or the other. I suppose neither is also an option if we bring an umbrella. Decisions, Decisions.

When I travel, I take sweatshirts with hoods and those cheap rain ponchos you get at the dollar store 2 for a buck. That way we can be warm and/or dry if the occasion warrants. The ponchos take up almost no room.

We always take the ponchos and the medium size ziplock bags, you can fit 2ponchos in the large one, so after the rain, if it is a short shower you can just shake off the water and put them away in the ziplock bag and put back in your bag or backpack, then airdry them when you get back to the room for next time. We also found that the backpack came in very handy, especially at the parks with the pop up showers, to carry the ponchos and the very small folding umbrella in and you can also put your camera or videocamera in it and keep them dry.

Thanks! my purse IS a backpack since I've had kids (bottles, diapers, snacks and all). This is exactly what I needed. Jackets can get bulky and I really didn't want to bring them for myself and DH. This will save tons of space.
Am I missing any reason to bring light jackets for the kids or sweaters/sweatshirts for that matter?
Does it get cold anywhere on the ship? Theatres?

The theater in particular is very cold! We went and got towels off one of the housekeeping carts to wrap around us the first time we went in! BRRRR! Also, depending on where your table is compared to the air conditioning, dinner can get kind of chilly.

I brought a light white sweater for me and DD and took it to every dinner (after the first). The guys were fine in shirt sleeves at dinner, but used their jackets in the theater!

I always bring one sweatshirt (for windy walks on deck at night) and our WDW ponchos....I can choose bright yellow with Classic Mickey or the newer variety, Tan with Safari Mickey from AKL!!! Or....maybe I'll bring my Sorcorer Mickey from Disneyland Paris!!!

Hate bringing jackets...too bulky!!!!

The Caribbean in August....I am feeling hot, hot hot!!!

See you on 8/3!

One evening in Parrot Cay I was soooo cold. I didn't look feel too attractive with a grey hooded sweatshirt (with Disney characters on it though!) through dinner. I came home and bought that goes-with-everything white button front sweater.

Maybe I am hot blooded....after 5 DCL cruises I never felt the need to wear anything "warmer" in the dining rooms, but I do wear the sweatshirt to the movie theatre.

I agree with you on this...but even the theatre on the cruise was not cool enough for a sweater. In fact I had the cabin set on the highest setting and it never gt really cold. Even my 73 year old mom who is always cold was comfortable with no sweater the whole cruise.

AprilGail2....The movie theatre can get a bit cool for my liking but not always. And I also agree with you that the cabins could definitely be cooler. We have been in all different cabins in all different categories and that is my one "complaint". I never think the cabins get cool enough.

We were luckily enough to be on the Maiden Voyage of the Magic in July of '98 and we had NO AIR CONDITIONING for about 18 hours in the cabins. Boy, was it hot!!!!! They were still working out all the glitches. Things have been better since!!!
