In most cases, if you are leaving the parks, the bust stop areas are covered, so unless the weather is really bad, you'd be able to take the poncho off just fine before boarding the bus. (though not all WDw bus stops are so lucky, wish they were)
I have never given this much though, except that I have seen plenty of times where someone leaevs a puddle on the bus seat behind them. Truly, I think that's pretty gross. Nobody wants to sit in a puddle left on a bus seat!
I'm usually in the camp of trying to get the poncho off as quicly as possible.
I also quietly chuckle at the folks who are still wearing a plastic poncho a full two hours after the rain has stopped, the sun is out, and the July temps are back up near 100 degrees. I can't imagine not noticing profuse sweat!
If at all possible, most ponchos are called dispoisble for a reason. If you fold them up damp, they often smell nasty the next time you take them out. If I must reuse them, of have the nicer ones- then I'll try to dry them within an hour of refolding them. Otherwise, I tend to toss them quickly.
But far more problematic than the ponchos are the putrid smell that comes from post-wet sneakers! It seems that it happens once a trip now we get seated on a ride or bus next to another family with really FOUL smelling shoes! ACK!
If you see rain in the forecast, I strongly suggest brining a pair of water tolerant shoes like Keen or Crocs or something.
Also, I always bring along the big 2.5gallon ziplocks. They are great for many uses, esp on rainy days.
