Poncho etiquette

In most cases, if you are leaving the parks, the bust stop areas are covered, so unless the weather is really bad, you'd be able to take the poncho off just fine before boarding the bus. (though not all WDw bus stops are so lucky, wish they were)

I have never given this much though, except that I have seen plenty of times where someone leaevs a puddle on the bus seat behind them. Truly, I think that's pretty gross. Nobody wants to sit in a puddle left on a bus seat! :scared:

I'm usually in the camp of trying to get the poncho off as quicly as possible.

I also quietly chuckle at the folks who are still wearing a plastic poncho a full two hours after the rain has stopped, the sun is out, and the July temps are back up near 100 degrees. I can't imagine not noticing profuse sweat!

If at all possible, most ponchos are called dispoisble for a reason. If you fold them up damp, they often smell nasty the next time you take them out. If I must reuse them, of have the nicer ones- then I'll try to dry them within an hour of refolding them. Otherwise, I tend to toss them quickly.

But far more problematic than the ponchos are the putrid smell that comes from post-wet sneakers! It seems that it happens once a trip now we get seated on a ride or bus next to another family with really FOUL smelling shoes! ACK!:scared: If you see rain in the forecast, I strongly suggest brining a pair of water tolerant shoes like Keen or Crocs or something.
Also, I always bring along the big 2.5gallon ziplocks. They are great for many uses, esp on rainy days.

That does present a dilemma (not sure I spelled that right!) ... anyway ... just have to think of me since DH would rather die than wear a poncho. I think I would get on the bus and then take it off ... not just because it would get everything wet for the person after me ... but I just don't think I would like to leave it on.

Maybe it depends on how wet it is. Now I hope it doesn't rain cause I don't want to think about this! :worried:
unless you put it in a bag, the water will just dribble down anyways.

We think it is rude to wear a wet, clingy poncho on the bus. They stick to other people and make that person uncomfortable. We take it off when we get in the covered bus area and shove them in a baggie so that the water is contained. If we get a little wet from the covered area of the bus stop to the entrance of the bus....no biggie.

I find it rude to sit next to some guy in a tank top all sweaty and smelly, but I still have to. ;)

...You can safely take the poncho off before you board and put them into whatever you are carrying for the day (because you had to be carrying something since you have a poncho). ...

We don't carry anything to the parks. We fold up our ponchos and tuck them into our waistband or over our belts.

We buy the Disney ponchos, in fact some we have are very old, they have been rained on multiple times and don't have any odor at all. They are not meant as a one time use like the Dollar Store ones that some guests bring.

We usually keep ours on in the stores because we are just using the stores as a way to keep dry getting to another location in the parks.

I usually take mine off before I get on a bus or just before I enter a store. Mostly because they are hot.

I take it off so it's inside out so I can carry it without getting myself, other people or merchandise wet.

Also keep in mind that on many attractions you are told you need to remove your poncho as soon as you are in the attraction building.

Really, really hate it when someone gets on a bus wearing a wet poncho and sits beside you, and you were "dry", but not for long - seems so rude. I don't wear them and hate to be brushed against by those that don't even consider others. We usually wait out the normally quick summer t'storms, but keep a small folded umbrella handy, just in case ( and no, we don't poke people's eyes with them). It's a last ditch effort to leave the parks if the rain lingers for longer than usual, and we wait for it to slacken, are very careful and considerate of others when we do leave.
