Pommes Frites & Beignets

Oooh, I'll have to try them from Jazz Express. I had the ones at Cafe Orleans and while they were good, as someone who has had beignets from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans many times, they left something to be desired! Maybe the ones in DTD are closer.

I've only had CdM beignets twice, but they are seared into my memory. To me, the CO beignets (while Mickey-shaped) tasted closer to New Orleans beignets. While the Jazz Express ones tasted like there was something VERY wrong with their oil. I won't be trying those again.

As an FYI, the "fritters" at Royal Street Veranda have been enjoyable as well. They also have a dipping sauce, pretty good. They are different from the beignets, but still a tasty fried dough, in my opinion.

No, Cafe Orleans is the only place you can get these. I don't think they have a minimum order, but by not ordering the Monte Cristo, you are seriously missing out on one of the BEST foods at that place!

Well, I guess that means I'll have to make one more reservation :thumbsup2

Thanks for the information. Guess I am also going to have get a reservation at Cafe Orleans.

We had lunch at Cafe Orleans for the first time! We tried the Pommes Frites amongst other menu itmes and I have no complaints whatsoever!!! The Pommes Frites were soooooooo good!!! Actually all of our dishes were good! Unfortunately, we were too full to try the beignets! :( It was a bummer, but... there's always next time!!!;)

Not necessarily....if there are two of you, what we always do is get a starter, either the pomme frites or the onion soup, split the Monte Cristo and split the beignets. You always get way too much food at DL so we have taken to splitting all of our meals! That way we get all the tastes!

Split things! You get to eat more!

Do you always need a reservation for cafe orleans? I was trying not to commit to a specific day, so I am hoping we could get in for a mid-afternoon lunch/dinner sometime without making one. Unwise?

How "unwilling to commit" are you? We live locally and often get up that morning and decide on a Mid-afternoon lunch/dinner, so we call Disney Dining between say 9-10AM make a 2-4PM Reservation, whatever they have that closest fits the time we predecided before calling.

We do a few chores, read the emails and DISboards, head out to the park for our "linner" or "dunch", stroll through the stores and come home in the evening, still stuffed!

Wow - I didn't realize you could get a same day reservation - I'm new to this. I'd be happy to call the day before. Sounds like that might be possible? We're going mid-June.

I think it depends on the time of the year that you go and if you are willing to eat at "irregular" times. If you go during peak season, reservations get full a lot faster for the normal lunch and dinner hours. However, if you are like the PP who is willing to eat between 2pm and 4pm, then you might be able to make a same/next-day reservation. Hope this helps ;)

On the Tuesday before Easter (i.e. VERY busy) I was walking past around 6:00 PM and on a whim I asked them how long the wait would be. They said for walk-ins, the wait would be 30-40 minutes. They then said that they had a PS available for 7:15 PM and asked if I'd like that instead, so I said sure, that way I wouldn't have to stand idly by. I put my name down, went on a couple more rides, came back at 7:00 PM for my 7:15 reservation, and was seated within 10 minutes. I was really surprised, since I frequent the boards and know how popular CO can be, especially during peak season. Of course, I wouldn't bank on it, but it is certainly possible!

Thank you sonnyjane and Flitterific for that info - that was stressing me out a bit as I didn't really want to make another reservation yet, but would like to eat there and maybe make a reservation once we have had a couple days in the park under our belt. We would actually rather eat around 3:00, as we are not big eaters and one big meal would probably cover lunch and dinner for us at that time. I'm assuming the monte cristo, pommes frites and beignets would be considered a big meal

Lol...yes, I would consider that a HUGE meal. Fried stuff fills me up really quickly but soo worth it to try at least once. Have fun :thumbsup2
