Pommes Frites & Beignets

Behold - beignets
photo.jpg

Keep in mind these are the birthday beignets. The regular beignets are served without the colorful frosting or whatever you call it that's on the bottom of the plate. They come with the berry dipping sauce that comes with the Monte Cristo and a creme anglaise. Yum! I love Cafe Orleans:love:

Here is a picture of the beignets from Cafe Orleans with the dipping sauces (one is a vanilla sauce and the other is raspberry)...so yummy!

Here is the picture of the beignets from Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen (same as the ones from Jazz Kitchen Express but just not in a bag):

The ones from Jazz Kitchen and Jazz Kitchen Express are always piping out and super doughy. The one time I had them from Cafe Orleans (they were out the other two times I was there), it was cold but still good because of the sauces. I think everyone should try both :goodvibes

Oooh, I'll have to try them from Jazz Express. I had the ones at Cafe Orleans and while they were good, as someone who has had beignets from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans many times, they left something to be desired! Maybe the ones in DTD are closer.

The ones in DTD are much closer to the real thing. But nothing beats a warm beignet from Cafe du Monde :woohoo:

They should be pretty close-they are made from the same recipe. They sell the mix there (about $10) but I buy it from Cost Plus World Market for about $3. They are really easy to make!:goodvibes

the Gumbo is to die for as well as the Pomme Frites and Beignets!! I think I have a pic of the Gumbo I'll look for it now BRB!!
Here we go..............

It was sooooooooooo good!!!!!

Can you tell me what's in the gumbo? Thanks!

I love the gumbo!! No seafood in there...I think the only meat is little sausage chunks. The bst thing about the Beingets is the vanilla custard sauce. Love that stuff.

rice, red bell peppers and green onions, Sausage and chicken I believe.... the flavor was so good just the right amount of spice and goodness... it was very good and I look forward to Aug when we can eat at Cafe Orleans again I can't believe all these years we have been going to DLR and never ate there before our last trip in Aug 09...It will be a must do every trip from now on.... from the service to the food it was the best meal we had at DL even better than Blue Bayou(which I really didnt like at all)and cheaper than BB with better options I think!!!

Cafe Orleans has only been in it's current format for about four years, it reopened in June 2006 with the current menu so you weren't missing it for that long.

I'm glad I didn't miss out for too long, It was a great meal and I look forward to eating there many more times.

Those are our favorite too. We think of them as little pillows of love.

Those look so yummy! My hubby loves cajun food, so I think will try the Jazz Kitchen for sure. So the Jazz Kitchen is in Downtown Disney, but where is the Jazz Express? Are the the same place?

I must admit, I'd never heard of beignets until I saw The Princess and the Frog. The ones in the movie looked like they had jam in them... I was tempted!

I had to post because of the pic in my sig. :) I may have to try the gumbo next time. I thought it was seafood, which I don't like.

Okay... now you have done it! I just found this discussion and now I will have to get on a plane to get the most scrumpcious things in the world! The beignets are amazing and the pomme frites are my downfall! For me, they make the perfect meal...

Jazz Kitchen Express is also in DTD...the two are next door to each other. The Express is pretty much a fast food place. I've had their jambalaya and a turkey po boy...wasn't big fan of either. However, I heard the pulled pork po boy is supposed to be good...I have yet to try it though.

Thanks for the info! :)

I am really wanting to try the Mickey Shape beignets. Is cafe orleans the only place that has them at Disneyland? I saw they have regular beignets, but I am really wanting the Mickey Shape ones. Do they mind if I just go to cafe orleans and order desert instead of meal. Thanks.

I'm wondering the same thing about the famous 'pommes frites'. Are either of these things available elsewhere?

No, Cafe Orleans is the only place you can get these. I don't think they have a minimum order, but by not ordering the Monte Cristo, you are seriously missing out on one of the BEST foods at that place!
