Hi, my hubby wants to put a layer of polyurethane on cabnits in our garage. I was just wondering if he will have to sand the cabnits first? Do you just brush the polyurethane on like paint? Any tips? Thanks

Yes, you want to make sure the wood is clean and smooth. I would use Minwax Wipe-on Poly. It's fantastic!

Just make sure that if you sand the cabinets you also wipe them down well afterward - it's awful when you forget to do that and end up with sawdust mixed in with the polyurethane. Yes, I speak from experience (though not with cabinets). It was ugly.

Technically no, you don't HAVE to sand them before applying Poly but you will get a better finish if you do.

You will want to put on multiple coats of poly and should also sand the poly after it dries before putting on the final coat.
