O.k. I am up to my ears in swirling info. And I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but my head is swimming. My family (wonderful husband, very excited ME, dd 10, ds 8 and dd5) are going to WDW for our 1st trip in Late July-August. (I know! It's going to be hot!) We are staying at the Poly. Trying to put in my room requests...Which is better...ground floor with Patio? Or top floor with balcony? I know that I want one of the newer building. (Tokelau,Rapa,and that other one?!?!?) and I like the idea of a patio and being on the ground. What do you experts think?

We had a patio room and just loved it last August.

Also I'm not sure you are aware but they finished a resort-wide refurbishment of all of the rooms in all of the longhouses early last year. So they are all fairly new looking inside the rooms.

My guess is that the other building is Tahiti built in 1985, just like Rapa Nui. Tokelau was built in 1978.

What kind of room view are you booking? Garden, Lagoon, MK? or Concierge?

If you are looking for Garden View and plan on swimming and want Tokelau you may want to request a pool view patio room.

If you would rather have closer access to the TTC, for monorail to Epcot, then Rapa Nui or Tahiti may be your best choice.

Congrats on selecting the Poly!

Personally I like a patio instead of a balcony but that's just me. The newer buildings are Tahiti, Tokelau and Rapa Nui. Out of all of those, for a garden view I like Tokelau. Second would be Tahiti garden view. Rapa Nui I don't like because there's a 50% chance you could get a parking lot view and it's the farthest from the GCH (but closest to the TTC).

I think the best GV longhouse is Fiji- it's close the the pool and GCH.

One one side you face Luau Cove and the Grand Floridian.

On the other side you face the Marina, Contemporary & Space Mt.

An advantage of an upper floor is being able to leave the sliding balcony door open at night. If the night is pleasant and there's a breeze, it's perfect.

It depends on the building and which way I'm facing. In Tuvalu, looking over the water, I'd rather be on top. Niue, I'd rather be in a patio where I could run to a pool easily. Etc., etc.

Please remember that not all requests can be granted. So, don't get your heart set on anything. Not trying to flame, just trying to save you some disappointment.

We were at the poly this past December
We requested a patio in Tokelau--got a room nowhere near upon check in. CM was able to get us a 2nd floor room in tokelau on quiet pool side. Loved the room--quiet at night and great for the 1/2 hour dip in the pool before dinner. We were also able to see a sideways view of MK fireworks from our Balcony--which made up for not getting a patio.

I appreciate all of the advice. I think I like the idea of a patio. Tokelau was suggested by a friend that just went. It won't really matter to us where we are. We are so excited to go, but I would feel better about my 5 year old on the ground floor. She is my adventure child and with my luck she'd want to play Tinkerbell!
