I just emailed out some new info in my update email but I wanted to post here to fill in some that don’t get the updates. Hawaii is gearing up on Sunday to open on Monday. Sounds like they are not done with everything (need to still do stuff in the concierge desk area) and they are working on a new menu for the lounge but it might not be in affect right away and I don’t know if it is a good or bad change.

I was emailed that Tuvalu and Niue opened with the new rooms and there has been no work on Tahiti yet like it was scheduled. Right after I emailed that Tuvalu was open with new rooms I got an email from a guest who was at the Polynesian last week and checked into Tuvalu after being told by the front desk it was a new room. When she entered it was an old room. This is what I speak of a lot that management does not keep the staff informed and it only causes problems. They later were informed that only the 2nd and 3rd floors were done and they opened the other rooms before they were done because they needed the room. This is exactly what happened to me when I flew out to see the new room design and checked into Rapa Nui (after being told all the rooms were new) and when I walked in the door saw an old room. The staff had no idea until I told them, than they found out that they opened the 2nd floor because of the over booking and had not worked on those rooms yet.

This guests also reported problems with water pressure when they were moved to a new room in Rapa Nui. I was told Tahiti needed work on the water lines also. She ended up in a new room in Fiji which was great but she did notice the lighting and headboards that do not match. This sort of rush to open is a bad practice and makes them look bad. Lets hope they get these things taken care of soon.

As much as I love the Polynesian and I think the staff and management do many great things I still am going to report when I think something is not right and I feel the way some things are being handled could be done better.

I know the management keeps an eye out for posts about the Polynesian so hopefully we can all work together to make the Polynesian a great resort.

Aloha

Steve

Thank you Steve,
For keeping us all informed...You do a great job and I have been enjoying your website for a few years....Although my first stay at the Poly was just last July, it has been my dream resort for many years...

We will be going again this May...I am looking forward to the new rooms, but if they dont get it all done by the time we go I will still love being there...

You just cant beat the location... :teeth: ..

Your posts help with the wait.....Its going to be a LONG winter ;)

Hey Steve - How about Aotearoa? Did they start that yet? That's our backup request in case we can't get into Fiji. We'll be there Oct 15-23.

Well it seems they are a little behind. THey have not even finished Tuvalu and I just found out that Rapa Nui is back open but the 2nd floor is still not even started so only the 1st and 3rd floors are done...well almost done since none of the new rooms have everything in them yet.

I have not heard that they have started Aotearoa and even Tahiti was supposed to be partly done by now and has not been started. This is why I am surprised they are finishing Hawaii on time.

I can understand focusing their energies on Hawaii since if guests booked concierge, there is nothing comparable to move them to. As long as occupancy isn't too high, it shouldn't matter too much if a smaller building or two is closed. And the two largest are still open I guess....Tokelau and Tahiti, right?

Thanks for the update, Steve. :flower: Three weeks from today we'll be checking into Hawaii. :hourglass I'll be taking a ton of pictures of all areas of the Hawaii building, and can't wait to share them! :3dglasses

Thanks Steve for the updates... I didn't subscribe to your "Up to date Poly News," but I figured you'll fill us in for those who didn't subscribed.

Ahhhh... Steve... I may be going back to Polynesian the week of Thanksgiving with my parents. I asked for Samoa... but maybe I should change it where I really wanted to stay... Fiji! Anyways... Thanks for the info!! :)

Thanks for the updates Steve. We leave home two weeks from today and check into Hawaii two weeks from Sunday! Woohoo! :cool1:

Steve:

We noticed that our new TV kept turning off every half hour or 45 minutes. We tried turning off the sleep timer but that didn't seem to help. Do you think that they programed something into the TV so that they can't be left on when you leave the room? Or do you think it was something that was wrong with the TV?

I wonder if by mistake some TVs and/or refrigerators were wired in series with the motion sensitive thermometers?

Why is it that there is no Polynesian FAQ included in the pinned Walt Disney World Resorts FAQ post at the top of the board?

Did you call maintenance to find out?

Just thought I would jump in here. We were just at the Poly last month and never had our T.V. turn off, however, we had air conditioning problems from day one. It seemed that everytime we would turn on the coffee pot or the hair dryer we would blow a circuit and the air conditioning would quit working, finally on our last day the engineer who came to fix it said there was something wrong with the thermostat and he replaced the whole thing. It seemed to work fine after that but again it was our last day. There isn't much that could ruin a stay at the Poly for me, but this was pretty inconvinient since we usually realized it had quit working again at night when we would be coming back hoping to get two very tired kids straight to bed. So be aware that if you request a new room they are still working out the bugs. We still had a great trip though just a few inconviniences.

About the TVs, I wanted to add I find it odd, but since I have been here I noticed that nearly ALL the TVs in Hawaii are on when I walk by--and the rooms are not occupied yet, as the building is still closed! I think perhaps something is up with the TVs.....? Will let you know what I find when we check in tomorrow! :)

Maybe they are just making sure the TVs don't switch off automatically as someone reported happened to them in Fiji?

Have fun moving into Hawaii today, Chamonix. I'm torn between reading your reports about it or waiting to see myself. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to resist reading any report you have time to make. :cool1:

Just came back from Poly and stayed in a new Rapa Nui room. Had no problem with the TV at all - on occassion we had it on for a couple hours at a time.
