Am I overreacting thinking this is not acceptable to be called a theme park view 1 bedroom? I'm afraid of the other rooms dvc calls theme park considering how expensive the points are.

So your room is on the north side (short side, closest to VGF)? I’d personally expect the TP view rooms to be on the east side of the building that face the seven seas lagoon.

How much more the balcony is the right of the first picture, what’s that view look like?

Have you spoken to the front desk? Did you book via points or cash? The views are less generous on the cash side for some of the resorts (BWV some standard view rooms for points count as Pool/Garden for cash, ask me how I found that out).

Edit: I’d personally be talking to the front desk claiming over 50% of the view counts as either Resort or Premium view (I’d say more like Resort/Standard and very little Premium).

Yea it was the side of the tower closest to the grand. You can see the castle if you look to the right but if you are just in the room you see grand Floridan.

I went to the front and asked for a new room which we just got into and it's way better. I also sent dvc an email saying they need to reevaluate the views but I didn't know if I was overreacting .

I don't know if I want to book theme park again until there is a more comprehensive list of what is a theme park view.

Thanks.

Touring Plans has the accurate info on room categories and yes, those handful of rooms on the “north” end like that are TPV and have been questioned by many who followed the Tower closely. In fairness your first pic looking straight off your balcony does have a very good view of the MK entrance, Tron, Space Mountain, and you can see the castle just over the GF building, and your other pics are more looking to the left. Personally I’m more worried about the rooms below you and low floor rooms on the lagoon side that are also categorized as TPV - those to me are going to really push people’s limits, in my opinion.

I was just there and had and 8th floor TPV room that faced the lagoon, no doubt it was a materially better angle than your first room. So yes, not all TPV rooms are going to be equal, for better or worse. My personal count is it’s roughly 80-85% quality TPV rooms, and 15-20% potentially questionable ones.

I suspect this won’t be the first post like this over time as more people start to experience the tower.

That said, glad you seem to like your new room better. Enjoy your Tower stay - we loved it.

Straight on we are looking at Grand Floridian. If you look over to the right at an angle you can see mk.

Touring plans has first floor theme park. I hope that's not true.

We had a standard view at BLT that was way better than your first room. With that said, I think if you moved to your right on the balcony it would be a more of a TPV. But I get it, it's a ton of points. Glad they did the right thing and moved you. Unfortunately, lots of people in your situation might not be so lucky. They really should re-assess that room and others like it. I agree with those that say maybe it should be preferred view, not theme park.

I'm glad you're happier with your new room @JOLT, but I think your representation of the two views is borderline misleading.

1) The castle shot from the new room has a much greater zoom/crop compared to the original room. Overlaying the good view photo over the 'bad' view photo and aligning based on the edge of Grand Flo building:

Zooming out, the full comparison is clear:

Of course, because these weren't from the same perspective there's some misaligned stuff, like the trees at the wedding pavilion, the wedding pavilion itself, and the castle.

1B) The "no head turning" comment should also apply to your previous room, see the overlaid photos above. Though maybe 3rd floor might be too low to see the castle specifically? Can definitely see Space Mountain and the Train Station in the photo. Maybe also Tron.

2) I think you gave up one of the better fireworks views at Island Tower, considering that fireworks (most nights) launch from north of the castle and, for typical nightly fireworks specifically, facing north is better than facing directly east, which some of the TPV do.

The Island Tower rooms that face northeast are probably the best angle overall, but all things considered (and my preference for fireworks), north-facing seems better than the east-facing.

3) In two of your 'bad room' photos, the camera is simply turned away from Magic Kingdom...

We were in the room for maybe 1 minutes so I just took a few pictures before we asked if they have a different room.

Maybe this bioreconstruct Aeriel would help it's the room top right facing the wedding check in area. The view from the bad room that you can see the castle was definitely angled from the balcony railing.

What it comes down to is in that room if you want to see the castle or MK you have to turn and look at it. From the front facing you can see the castle with our turning your head.

Of course at Riviera, you can see Spaceship Earth and fireworks (and... parking lot) from the Standard view and can't from Preferred so there's that. I wonder which is farther away Poly to Castle or Riviera to Golf Ball.

We checked in on 12/31 and they first offered a first floor TPV. I asked for something higher and they gave me one of those north facing rooms as well. I was happier than the first floor room and for me, I enjoyed seeing the monorail and castle. That said, I would prefer to face east and certainly higher up. I was told by the CM checking in that anything that doesn’t face Shades is TPV. For 89 points a night in high season, it was one time I was going to ask for something better.

It’s good that you let DVC know. I was told years ago that when they create a resort, and decide, they don’t always know exaclty how it will work out until the actual rooms are finished.

So, they sometimes will reclassify. That is what happened with BLT when they changed :9’e TOv rooms to SV because they were lower floors.

Used Google Maps and the answer is...
.78 Riviera to Ball, .9 Poly Tower to Castle (though I'm approximating where the PITower is).
