I tried to post this 10 minutes ago, but it didn't go through!? Hope this works and isn't a duplicate:

Hi everyone! We've returned and readjusted to life after Disney. We had a great, albeit soggy week. Here's our thoughts on our Polynesian stay. To give some background....we love this resort. This is our 4th stay here. I feel lucky

We checked in about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday the 28th. It was quite busy with several families waiting to be checked in. They were handing out leis like crazy! Valet took our luggage from the towncar. The line moved o.k. It did take some time--maybe 30 minutes?--to be fully checked in, including waiting in line and having my turn...not too bad given the crowd.

We got lucky with our room. Each time we've stayed here, I've made a building request. That's usually it. Just the building, not floor, or room number, or view or anything. I finally got what I requested this trip! Samoa-ground floor (I would have liked a balcony, but I'm not complaining!), room 1612. We were facing the quiet pool on the end nearest to Hawaii building. Some people would have been furious with our "view." We had large vegetation right outside our lanai, completely obstructing our view--and we loved that! Much more private, especially for a ground floor! I feel very grateful that we got our request this weekend especially because the guy who checked us in said they were sold out for that Saturday night!

Our room was clean. It wasn't perfect, but we don't expect perfection. There were some stains on the carpet and some dings on the walls, but the bedding was clean and the bathroom was clean. We called for a fridge and it was brought over within an hour. Mousekeeping was great, I thought. They did a good job vacuuming and cleaning the bathroom. I do leave a daily tip. No towel animals, but again, I've never gotten them and I don't expect them.
You can definately tell the rooms are "tired." I'm glad to know the remodel is taking place. I think the dings and stains didn't bother me so much because they will be going away!

Yes, the pool was crowded! In spite of the crowds, everyone was pretty friendly to eachother. The crowds left after Memorial weekend and we didn't have any trouble finding a chair after that.

Here's my disappointment: We couldn't hear the Polynesian music this trip. They usually pipe it on the walkways and the pool area. The music was on, but you could only hear it if you squatted down by the speaker. What a bummer! I was also bummed that they DON'T have music out for Wishes. Again, it's there--only at the volcano pool area--and only if you are willing to squat the whole time by the speaker so you can hear it! Lots of people commented on this.
One more note: it rained on our trip. We don't mind it at all. We put on ponchos and away we went. I had to cancel a Family Magic tour because of the rain so I was up by the guest relations in the lobby. The CM were not very friendly. They were fine to me, but other people were nervous about the rain and were asking what I thought were normal questions, especially if this is your first trip. A guy, clearly a midlle aged dad, came up the CM next to mine and asked which park would be best to go to during the rain. The CM began a monotonous monologue to this guy..."it DOES rain at Disney, sir. The attractions will still be running..." You could tell the dad was confused because that wasn't his question. The CM clearly thought the dad was coming to complain about the rain.
I saw this happen to several people while I was waiting to confirm my cancellation.
My last diappointment: I didn't see any DISers! Too much lime green everywhere! I did have a lime green bandana attached to me or my stroller at all times. Bummer! I know at least 2 other DIS families were at the Poly the same time as we were. I was on the lookout, but it was pretty hard given the popularity of lime this season!

Overall, great resort still. O'Hanas didn't disappoint. I finally had Tonga toast. Yum! Not what I had pictured, but very good! Loved Boutiki shop! The lady in the Wyland gallery said they were moving this week, so I'd expect that the gallery has moved. They haven't started Captain Cook's expansion, yet. I'm glad it wasn't going on during our stay! (but it soooo needs to be done!)
No weird smells, except from my DH and 3 boys!

Any questions????

I just remembered one more thing! Captain Cook's! They don't have breakfast dishes ready to go as in the past! It used to be that you could grab your egg croissant and pay and go...now you order it and wait. They give you a beeper and everything! It was slow! Anyone know why they changed this procedure????

Gald you had a good time. We have ressies for August and I get nervous when people have some complaints. About the fridges - I thought they were in the rooms, but you had to request one. Does you always have to request one and was there a charge?

Great trip report Tinks, thanks a bunch for taking the time.

How did the transportation hold up with the holiday crowds?

Enjoyed your report. I agree with you about gardenview rooms that look at vegatation at the Polynesian....they are great!

Sorry to hear your room had a few scuff marks, etc.. We were in Samoa at the end of February and our room was perfect. Could have just been renovated if I didn't know better. Sounds like a recent guest must have been hard on your room. :sad2:

Funny about the lime green. I saw so much of it in May, too. Impossible to tell who might be a DISser. :sunny:

We had to request a fridge. I read that due to the upcoming remodel, they haven't put fridges in all the rooms yet. You can get one, but you need to call--no charge for the fridge. I read they are installing fridges in all the rooms when they remodel, which should be starting soon! :)

The transportation was great! You can't beat the monorail. My 3 year old is train obsessed and kept wanting to leave a park to go ride the monorail! We took the bus to the AK and MGM. Our longest wait for a bus was 20 minutes. It was to MGM, and we had just missed a bus to MGM on our walk to the stop (we saw it pulling away). 20 minutes wasn't too bad. My boys had a light sabre fight at the bus stop while we waited!

I forgot one other thing! Bunny report: the bunny population seems to have dwindled. My kids are on a mission catch a bunny and bring it home. We only saw one bunny. In the past we saw MANY!

There are still plenty of ducks. We saw lots of mama ducks and babies. It was so precious! No Stumpy to be seen, though. Has anyone seen him lately?

I haven't seen Stumpy for several trips now....maybe a year and a half ago.

In fact, we didn't see as many ducks on our last trip a couple of weeks ago. Maybe they were on their nests at that time?

Thanks for the report. I know that much rain can be a bummer (I had another description I had to censor). I am surprised you thing Samoa looks tired because the renovation is only about a year old and especially in the ground floor rooms they were completely gutted and everything was replaced but maybe some families before you took out some aggressions on the room.

I hope it was at least warm so you could still be out in the rain.

Aloha

Steve

i miss the Poly music,, sometimes i was by myself going to get a soda refill or doing laundry and i just stopped and listened, just me and the walkway music i truly loved it i would have complained, i need my poly music, we tried the bottom floor and my husband did not care for it so we always ask for top, but we did like the brkfst with eggs and hash browns already to grab and get on the monorail... wish we could do poly but we are trying asmovies

Hi Leanne11....May I inquire as to why you prefer the top floor as opposed to the bottom floor? We will be staying at the Polynesian for the first time and I requested the bottom floor.

Tinks - we were at the Poly same time as you 5/28-6/5 also in Samoa (2nd floor, no balcony). I could hear the music as I walked the grounds. One night for Wishes I sat at a table (side closest to Samoa, 2nd table away from towel return) and the speaker was right there. Had to strain a bit to hear it, but it was a great view with the music.
I agree about Captain Cooks - very slow!
My room was in good shape except for a few pulls in the rug.
I'm sure we passed each other all the time! I too have 3 kids 2 boys, 1 girl.

as to the Wishes music, Disney really wants everyone to experience Wishes from the MK and not the beaches of the monorail resorts. This is just one way to encourage this.

I do agree about the Polynesian music though, maybe it will return after construction is finished.

we had a few different views but the last time we stayed on the balcony we saw the first run of the morning of the monorail right outside our room the pix are great and we had ducks below us, the balcony gives my husband a room to drink his coffee slowley and not wake up the kids or while they are napping he is reading a book out there and he likes the privacy, we ordered a pizza last time and while daddy napped inside the kids ate out on the balcony and they love it.we were on the top floor and seeing the monorail from our room was great. i remember being on the ground floor and my feet were attacked by i think red ants, after a rain. you'll enjoy no matter what
remember if you don't like your view ask to be changed..we changed 3 times before i found what i was happy with..

I'll bring some spray just to be safe in case those pesky ants show up...

Hey! we were there at the same time and same building! We loved the Poly, but not really our fav resort....glad you had fun despite the weather.

Tinks.....What a great attitude!! It did not matter if everything was perfect, you made the best of what you had and enjoyed a great time. You did not have an expectation of perfection, and you still had a blast. Kudos to you and your family. Our family loves the Polynesian because it has brought us so many memories of great times together. We may not have gotten every one of our desires satisfied, but I would not trade our times there for anything. Thanks again.

AHHHHHHH....the POLY, my first and still my favorite WDW resort!

Thanks for the report!
