We are thinking of going to this with some friends. I noticed that the price difference between Category 1 & Category 2 seating is only a $6 difference. Is there a big difference in view between Category 1 & Category 2?

We do not want to be singled out in front of the crowd during the show though. Do they do that at the Luau, like they do at HDDR?

Thanks!:goodvibes

Category 1 is in the front with few obstructions. Cat 2 is behind this group. Most crowd interaction is with kids in the front, although some poor guys have to do a hula. Some refused and were no forced on stage.

Thank you! Hmm...my DF would be mortified if he was asked to get up & do the hula.....I wonder if we should go with Category 2, just to be safe :) Is Category 2 a good view of the show?

we did the cat one and we love being up in the front area dead center...we have never been approached by the cast to participate ...we enjoyed the show and the food too..

We sat Cat 1 the last time we went and it was nice to be so close to the stage. However, there were a few issues that you may or not experience but you should know could happen. Kids from the other tables kept coming over in front of our table so they could see the dancers better. During the "teach the kids how to do the hula" part parents from the tables off to the side and behind use came up so they could take pictures of their kid up on stage.
The reason these were so disruptive for us was because one child knocked my DD down and she skinned her knee which almost caused her to miss going up to learn the hula and then when she did get up to do it, we couldn't see her because of the adults blocking our view. :headache:

Cat 2 does not mean you will not be picked as some of the tables are first level but a bit off to the side. That being said I have been 3 times and I have never seen them be pushy if you say no.

My first ever luau was front and center. I got picked to go dance with the guys. Thank goodness for that free wine. :rotfl:

We were there in January of 2010 and sat in Cat. 2. We were in the front row however we were off to the left of the stage a little. We still had an unobstructed view. They did ask everyone who was wearing a "Birthday" button to stand. Then they had us do the Hula. So... if they say "who's having a birthday?" don't raise your hands. lol

If you plan on using the DDP, the Spirit of Aloha Show counts as two Table Service meals. Also, you can only sit in Cat. 2 or 3 seating.

Since my post count is below 10, I am not allowed to post links yet. You can google Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show seating chart and click on Images. It will show you the various categories.

We are on the DDP, but we are not planning to use our DDP credits for this meal-we plan to pay out of pocket.

I'm thinking we might do category 2-it seems like the best place to avoid being picked for anything and also avoid kids running over and standing in front of us.

The Spirit of Aloha show has two different times-5:15 and 8:00. You may want to do Cat. 1 at the 8:00 show as there may be fewer young children. I wouldn't worry too much about your DH being asked to hula. There is usually one person who is more than willing (and tipsy) to do it.

Thank you-that is very good to know. We are actually planning to do the 8pm show! I"ll have to talk to my DF and see what he wants to do.

This is so true...in May we sat in Cat 2 and my DH still was asked to go up and do the hula dance. We sat on the lower level off to the side right behind 1 table and we still got a great view of everything. Another thing, I don't know if you are on the dining plan or not, but Cat 2 and 3 are covered by the dining plan, but if you want Cat 1 seating, then you will have to pay OOP. The Luau is 2 credits if you go that route.
