Polynesian cabana confusion

I will be going down in June to celebrate a graduation at the Poly and wanted to rent a cabana for the day. I just have some questions because after talking to Disney reservations I am totally confused!

At first I asked if everybody at the cabana has to stay at the Poly (because among the 6 of us, some will probably stay at another resort). She said no, however she later said that guests from other resorts would not be able to use the pool, just the cabana (?).

I then asked if the cabanas could be reserved in advance. She said no.

I just wanted anyone who has done this to clarify if these are the correct answers. It seems strange that they would rent you the cabana but not allow pool access for everyone that can be accommodated inside the cabana. Also I'm surprised you can't reserve in advance, since ideally I would want it on a Saturday.

I do not know about reserving in advance but you must be a guest of the Poly to use the pool.

The cabana's can be reserved at 180 days from the day you want to reserve them. 1-407-WDW-PLAY. The CM is correct about the only people who can use the pool are Poly guests. Poly guests can reserve a cabana and invite people to use the cabana and only the cabana unless those other guests are Poly guests as well. Sorry.

If you are not a guest at the Polynesian you cannot book a cabana. They will ask for your confirmation number for the resort stay to confirm. They will not book the cabana unless you give them the resort stay confirmation number.

You can request the cabana 180 days out; however, you cannot request specific cabanas. It's on a first come basis. You will see when you get there than one of the cabanas has a better view of the pool than the other. If you want to snag that cabana you'll have to show up at the recreation center early the day you're renting. Make great friends with your server once you're in the cabana, they sometimes do special things. It was my Mom's bay so our girl brought over balloons and a card as well as included some extra drinks/food. We tipped her pretty high for everything she did
