Polynesian - Building Requests or No?

We're staying at the Polynesian in a GV room in July. If Tahiti was to be available, I would definitely request that building. But according to Tikiman, Tahiti will be closed for refurb.

So, here's my question about requesting a building.

Now I NEVER expect upgrades - in fact, we're very unlucky in that matter and I don't ever go with hopes of getting a free bump to a better room category. However, this trip is very special for us. We're celebrating several things:

1. Our 5 year wedding anniversary. (6/25)
2. My 31st birthday. (8/2)
3. My daughter's 1st birthday. (7/14)
4. My son's 3rd birthday. (8/8)
5. My grandmother's 83rd birthday. (8/4)

We have four rooms booked. I have no requests about the rooms being next to one another. As long as we're in the same building, or in buildings close to one another, that's fine with me.

Soooooooooooooooooo, in my hopes that maybe some pixie dust would settle on me and we may get an upgrade, would you recommend leaving off any building requests? I mean, if the room controller sees that I'm requesting Tokelau, for example, would any chance of an upgrade go out the window b/c he or she thinks that I won't be happy with anything else?

Please understand that I am completely content with a GV room at the Polynsesian and I don't feel I 'deserve' anything or that anyone 'should' treat us more grandly b/c of the events we're celebrating. I'm just wondering what route I should go...request a building in advance or just take a wait and see approach.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for your opinons/advice/experience.

My suggestion is to not make a building request. Before our trip in February, I asked a similar question. We ended up not making a request. We were moving from POR on the day we checked into Poly. We got there around 10:30 a.m. to check in. I explained that we didn't need to get into a room right away because we were going to Blizzard Beach for the day. The CM who checked us in told us that he did have a room available, but if we could wait, he could give us a nicer room in Fiji. I told him we'd wait for the nicer room. We ended up with a 3rd floor room in Fiji overlooking the marina. It was great.

I guess the point of my story is that if we had gone in with certain "expectations" (even though we all know they're just requests), we might have been disappointed to not get what we asked for even if what we got was very nice. It's always pleasant to be pleasantly surprised.

Tikiman said that he doesn't make a request for his visits. I went with that.
