Hello everyone,

I have a booking for september 2020 (8 nights) staying at Grand Destino but when I heard about DVC rentals, I noticed that for the same price I could be staying at the Polynesian Resort. I have not yet paid my full booking to Disney so I can still cancel without loosing too much (130€ is the deposit I paid).

I will have the whole amount saved by January but I read that for DVC renting you have to pay the full amount upfront (which I understand).

My question being:
I was thinking about keeping my booking at Grand Destino (just to be sure) and then in January begin to look for a rental at Polynesian. Then if they find me the room, I'll cancel Grand Destino.

Do you think there will still be some availability for a 8 nights stay at the DVC Polynesian?

If the broker books for me before I cancel my stay at Gran Destino , will it mess up my MDE ? Because I will have 2 stays at different resorts for the same date.

Thanks in advance for your answers :)

Long live the DIS!

I think you have the right plan. In September it should be possible to book a Poly studio at the 7 months mark in you're going the first three weeks, but better to have someone ready to book as soon as possible as the reservation window opens, because availability goes quickly. The last week of September is the start of the busiest DVC season, so your chances are worst for that week.
If you don't mind paying a premium to rent Poly points, booking in January (8 months out) will give you the best chances.

Hello thank you for your answer. :)
I have some flexibility for the dates. It can be sooner in the month if needed.

No issue with"double"booking in the app ? ( As soon as I have a confirmation for the dvc rental I'll cancel my other booking). I'm so scared of everything being messed up in the app.

There should be no issue with MDE either. To lose items in MDE you need to be left with no reservation on property on those days. The Poly reservation will go into your MDE and be comparable to the CSR for any on property benefits. You will need to coordinate Dining Plan and Magic express through the renter. You do FP+ on your own at 60 days as long as the reservation number in in your MDE.

As zavandor said, even in early Sept, you want to have your renter lined up to get your reservation right at 7 months, and that still isn't a given. Paying the premium for 7-11 month booking would cost more, but improve your odds greatly. Here's a thread that shows historical availability. Availability starts to no longer be open right at the 7-8 month mark, but it just goes to Mostly, which is >9 days with a couple of 2-3 day windows included. If you need 8 days, advanced booking would help.

Reservations from dvc typically don't show up on mde until you add them, that would include for private rentals (i.e., not renting for cash directly from Disney). The Disney reservation system and the dvc system seem to have some sort of separation, so the systems will let you make a rental reservation while you still hold a cash reservation

Is there a big price difference with Premium booking ? If it's a matter of 100$ then I dont mind but If we talk about a 500$ supplement for premium booking then I'll forget about it :(

Okay never mind I just checked online and the premium fees for early booking are already included in their cost calculator system :)

Thank you !
Then I'll wait that the CSR booking is fully gone out of MDE before linking the DVC one. Hopefully this should avoir any issue.

Just need to get that room now :D

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure of you realize this or not, but I'm case you don't... You will get your full deposit back if you cancel your reservation.

I've been seeing more and more hotels out there charging a large premium for refundable room rates, and it makes me wonder when Disney will start doing the same.

Are you sure ?
I have booked with DisneyEurope (aka the worst site possible to book disney : no deals, no ultimate pass like Uk or Irland - but that's my fault for not paying attention) and in terms and conditions they say that the deposit of 65€/pp shall be used as a "cancellation fee".

Anyway I'll see that with Disney if I end up cancelling. Even if I loose the deposit it would still be a better deal for me to rent DVC and add Ultimate tickets from the UK site (with Park hopper, water parks and memory maker offered) than the package I paid.

If you book in January, you have a good chance DVC Poly will be open for the time you want in Sep. and then you can cancel your other reservation without penalty. An issue you may actually face is just finding someone who has enough points to rent you 8 nights, creating the possibility that you may have to get two different owners to do reservations and then have the owners link the reservations so you do not have to change rooms. Also, in addition to some things mentioned above, be aware: (a) you not only have to pay all up front for a DVC reservation, but thereafter cancelling and getting your money back may not be possible; (b) changing the DVC reservation, such as dropping a night or two or adding additional nights, may be very difficult, particularly once you are sooner than 7 months not from your trip; (c) you do not get daily room service with a DVC reservation; if the reservation is for 8 nights, you get full cleaning on the fourth day and a change of towels on the 8th day; you can purchase additional cleaning while at the resort but cost for a studio is $30 per day; (d) with a DVC reservation, you can rent a car and not have to pay the resort parking fees that regular Disney guests now pay.

Ah, it must be different than the US bookings. My terms and conditions tell me I can get a full refund of my deposit as long as I cancel at least 5 days prior to my arrival date.

I was thinking about a professionnal agency to do this because I'm not confident enough to do that myself 😅

If you get any private messages from people offering you reservations or points for the Polynesian at your desired dates, ignore them. That is how people get scammed. You really need to delete any reference to your dates from your messages.
