Hi looking for some advice. When my children were small we once managed a holiday of a lifetime for them at the Polynesian (we are from the UK). Despite several trips back since we have never stayed there again although we always go for a visit and Ohana dinner. It’s always been a place with special memories.

My son is about to turn 21 and we are coming over to celebrate next week (not staying on-site). We have Ohana booked twice and I’ve been looking constantly to see if a reasonable priced room might pop up over our 2 week stay. I’d love to surprise my son with this but I’ve not yet found a room less than $1200 for a night. Is this now the norm? Am I kidding myself a last minute bargain might appear?? Maybe it’s been too long since I booked a Disney hotel and that’s the going rate? I’m flexible on dates but the prices are fairly static.

My last idea is to ask at the resort when we go to dinner on Friday to see if they have anything over our 2 week stay - what sort of price might I expect for a walk in?

As a walk-in, you will be quoted rack rate, which is full price with no discount. There will not be any last minute discounts, however, availability may change as you approach your dates (room-only reservations need to be canceled at least 5 days prior in order to receive a deposit refund, so it's not unheard of that rooms may become available as you get closer to your dates). For early September, the cheapest rack rate is going to be around $700, however, do note there is major construction going on with the Poly DCV tower and a less expensive, "resort view" room may get you a less than desirable view of major construction. Maybe consider checking some of the DVC rental sites to see if a Poly studio is available for one of your dates?

Edited to add: what are your dates, exactly? Just a cursory look at one-night Poly stays over the next two weeks shows a lot of availability in the lower priced rooms - around $606+tax. Perhaps the UK site is showing something different? Maybe reach out to a US-based TA to see if they can help?

Shopdvc.com has confirmed reservation one night at Poly, Sept 12 for $399. (Not sure what date(s) work for you)

I’ve used this site before. Super easy. You follow the book now link, provide your details and pay, and usually within a day they get back with Reservation # that you can put in MDE (just like any hotel reservation).

Good luck!

When renting like this, do you then get normal perks? What about dining option?
Yes as a renter you get full deluxe perks like EEH and all of the on property perks as well. Dining works like any WDW stay.

You can start booking for your whole stay at 60 days from arrival.

Keep in mind split reservations will have separate windows, both starting from checkin day.

When Disney Dining Plan returns you can reach out to rental source to add it on if you’d like. That’s the only purchase required to go through the actual owner. Every other add-on purchase (tickets, events, pre-paid dining like CRT, etc) can be done by the renter.
