Hi!
I understand that 2nd floor rooms in most buildings don't have balconies. Can anybody help me with some info on this? Do those rooms come up cheaper? Are they otherwise the same as the others? Is the view much different/are there many windows in those rooms? We're looking into Poly for our next stay, and I'd like to know a bit more about this.

That's right. The first floor rooms have patios, second floor just have windows with a railing, third floor have balconies. You can request but there is no guarantee of what you'll get. They are all the same price. The only different in price will be with the view categories.

No they are not cheaper - they cost whatever the view for that room category costs (so garden, lagoon, theme park, etc.), balcony or not. The rooms themselves are exactly the same - just that you can't step out onto a balcony. They have a sliding glass door that just leads to a wall that looks like a balcony wall but there's actually no where to step outside the door (it's done for aesthetic purposes - so from outside - you can't tell so easily that there are no balconies on that floor).

PS - I'm not sure it's "most" buildings that don't have balconies on the 2nd floor - I can't remember through how many. You can check the Tikiman website - he has all the longhouses and their info on them.

We just got back from the Poly Dec. 5th and 6th. We got one of the rooms without the balcony. It was in Aerotoa (sp?).

Honestly I was really bummed about not getting a balcony. Only good thing it was so freezing cold you probably could not actually enjoy it anyway. We did ask to change rooms but they said they were completely booked.

Only good thing was I knew we were going to the Yacht Club and we would have a balcony there so that helped.

If it was nicer weather I would have really been upset without the balcony. We also went in May and asked the cm to change rooms, only wanted what we paid for, garden view,but the resort was not that full. We got switched to Samoa 3rd floor facing the Volcano Pool, awesome view!!

A balcony is one of the main reasons we stay at a deluxe! We love to sit on the patio or balcony and let the kids sleep after a long day at the parks. We asked for a patio room as our first request when we made a reservation. We asked for a full balcony as a second request. We hoped that this would get us a room with either one and we would be happy.

We got an awesome room: patio,1st floor in the Niue longhouse- facing the Volcano pool Steps from the GCH, Captian Cooks and both pools.

We stayed at the Poly this past May in Tahiti. We were on the second floor and had a walk out 'balcony.' The hubby and I used it to escape while the kids were napping or in bed. Make sure you request a walk-out balcony.

we requested and got a balcony room in sept. we had a view of the passing monorail, which was really great! i didn't sit out there as much as i thought i would, but i did end up putting wet clothing out to dry on the chairs, and kept the stroller folded up on the balcony to save on room space.

Stayed at the Poly Dec 11-16 in the Tahiti. Had a 2nd floor theme park with full balcony. Too bad we couldn't use it for more than a few minutes. Way too cold. I had requested a full balcony and had no problem getting my request.

At the Poly, the older longhouses have patios on the first floor and balconies on the 3rd floor. Second floors are just sliding glass doors with a railing so you get fresh air but cannot step outside. These longhouses include Aotearoa, Fiji, Tuvalu, Samoa, Roratonga, Hawaii(concierge only) and Nuie(actually only has 2 floors). The newer longhouses have patios on the first floor and balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors as well as larger room sizes. The newer longhouses are Tahiti, Tokelau, and Rapa Nui.

Unfortunately, Poly does not have full balcony as a bookable category. Bookable categories are only by view and standard/concierge level. Garden/lagoon/theme park view and you can request a full balcony BUT that does NOT guarantee a balcony. If you want a "guaranteed" balcony on the monorail line, you would have to book CR-tower or GF. CR garden wing has no balconies and there are only a handful of oddball rooms at GF in the main building that have no balcony.

I booked a theme park view room, requested Tahiti 3rd floor. Checked-in at 9:15 a.m., got Aotearoa 2nd floor (no balcony). I very nicely asked if I could get my request granted. The front desk clerk called Housekeeping and then told me I could get what I wanted but I'd have to wait for it. Our room wasn't ready until close to 6 p.m., but that was OK with me ... we were going out to MK as soon as we arrived, anyway, and the little bit of time we had to wait in late afternoon was a worthy investment for having exactly the room we wanted for the entire week.
