Poly vs AKL

here is my story

I just booked 7 nights at AKL ...we have never stayed there before. Savannah View in Feb 14-21

I have two sons (6years old and 4 years old)

Last time we stayed at Poly....

We could stay there again for about 500 more dollars.... that is something we can do.

Do I change and go back to Poly for monorail use or stay at the AKL for a new experience?????

I could use the extra 500 on other things or is it worth the extra money for the monorail???

I'd stay at AKL. I stayed there in August with DD4 and we both loved it. The resort is a vacation in and of itself. The transportation was great. It never took long to get to any of the parks. $500 is a lot just to be on the monorail.

We have stayed at and love both resorts for different reasons. If your only hesitation about AKL was "lack of monorail" and it would save $500....I would stay at the AKL. Keep in mind..my first and still my favorite Disney resort is the Poly.

However, we love the AKL as well. IMHO...the bus transportation is among the finest in Disney, the pool is wonderful, great decor, good food choices, and of course the animals!

Hmmm. toughie...

Advantages

AKL...you've never been...I always vote for diversity.
AKL...animals...oh.so.cool.for little boys
AKL...fireside stories by natives from the safari...a cool touch
AKL...really liked peaking out the door in the morning to see which
animal was visiting us that day...we marked them off a
sheet as we saw them.
AKL...I think they have rooms with bunkbeds which would be cool
for your boys.

Poly....Monorail and boat travel
Poly....Rooms are much roomier.
Poly....the grounds and and pool give a neat theme
Poly....you're near the water...my kids liked playing on the beach

Disadvantages

AKL...no monorail...however buses are very consistent
AKL...rooms smaller

Poly...you've been there before...time to try something new
Poly...no giraffes to greet you
Poly...sometimes the rooms can have a funny smell (must/mold)

So based solely on the fact you've never been there before I'd say give AKL a try and build memories with the $$$ you save....renting mouseboats...character meals....just have fun!

My DH and I have stayed at the AKL and loved it. The buses ran frequently, the animals are a major plus, the pool was fabulous. We are going back in January and splitting a week between the AKL and the Poly because DH has always wanted to stay there. I've stayed at the Contemporary and being on the monorail is convenient I will admit. But all in all, for $500, stay at the AKL and enjoy a new experience.

I know how you feel about being nervous switching to AKL. We will be there at the same time, Feb 12th - 18th. We have always stayed at BWI, but decided to try AKL this time, mostly because of what I have read about it on these boards. My DD's 12 & 6 want to try the Sunrise Safari so we are AKL bound, maybe we'll see you there.
