Poly - VGF Walkway Changes

That sucks!!!! Floridian Way is way to busy to have families with little kids crossing it, I've seen more than one accident on this road. Looks like they don't even have the flashing walking signs to alert drives when a person is crossing. This was a horrible decision on Disney's part.

Agreed. We have Poly for the week for Christmas. Thinking about trying to find a discounted cash stay somewhere else now and saving the points for a future trip. Our love of Poly has to do w/the relaxing walk between Poly and VGF and then onto MK. Now it is going to be not fun.

Maybe better to take the boat over and monorail back if you need a dole whip! I think the bus stops at GF right after Poly as well.

Is this anticipated to be a permanent change? Crossing traffic twice as a walking guest seems less ideal than creating a more guest friendly walkway in the long term.
I don't know, but I would "assume" that it will be that way during construction. But I don't see Disney spending the money on a nicer temporary walkway for something that won't be needed once construction is complete.

We've booked at the Dolphin for the week we have Poly. Will keep both reservations while we see how this plays out.

FYI for anybody going that time of year and you don't currently have a place to stay.....we booked at AP rate at Dolphin for the same price as an AP rate at Pop......and yes that includes all taxes and fees.

The walkway will reopen once the DVC tower is finished. It will be several years.
Use boats and monorail till 2024.
Thanks, unfortunately for us Poly is out until that happens then. We booked it as a walkable resort, which I suppose it still is, but I am not crossing Floridian Way twice, particularly at night just to get to and from the park.

Agree, our family enjoys the walk between the resorts. Our plan was to stay at Grand Floridian in 2023. We visit Tambu Lounge and Trader Sam’s often. This is insane people speed through this section of roadway. Not sure what Disney is thinking. No more stays at Grand Floridian until construction is completed. We need a two bedroom villa. We eagerly anticipate the completion of the Poly expansion.

Yeah - This is not a walkway I will be doing , I liked the old one last month. Think I will avoid both until 2015

At least walking is still an option! I figured they were going to close the walkway and tell ya to monorail.

If boat is running when trying to go. It's not early open and saw it closed for weather a couple times over the summer.

Losing that walkway is a big hit to VGF.

I agree, we walk over to Polynesian at least a couple times when we are at VGF.

Durn! We traditionally walk over to Poly for 'Ohana breakfast our first morning at VGF.

Looks like we'll be using the boat or monorail to get there next May.

The walkway changes sound really unpleasant to me. I'm pretty nimble despite being "vintage," but crossing Floridian Way scares me more than TOT any day!

Yup, I'm another one who won't stay at VGF until after the construction ends and hopefully the walkway to Poly reopens. Last time I stayed at VGF, I went over to Captain Cooks many times to eat. GF has Gasparilla Grill, but I much preferred Captain Cooks offerings. The current walkway doesn't make me feel too safe crossing the main road.
