We stayed at the WL in May and loved it. We wanted to stay at the Poly this coming year, but I was surprised at the difference in price. What makes the Poly so much more expensive? What's the best rate anyone has got at the Poly?

Most of the difference in price is due to the location of the Polynesian and being a monorail resort. Also the standard rooms are larger. There are other differences that are not as significant so other than those things I would base the decision on what theme you like best.

I would agree with Tikiman. You should base your decision on the theme you wish to experience. My personal preference is that the Polynesian is fantastic. I love the tropical theming. I've stayed and visited most of the WDW resorts and the Poly is my favorite.

Convenience is the main reason for the price difference. Having the monrail at your resort is convenient. The larger rooms are a plus as well. I feel the pool is at the Poly is better than the pool at the WL. Seeing the castle from the pool area is magical.

I love both - they are my favourites, but the price difference is huge. I have stayed at WL most - for the price and theming. This time i am staying at the poly for the theming and convenience.

The main differences to me are as follows - Poly feels like i am somewhere tropical - the lodge feels like i'm in the wilderness - love both themes.

Both resorts are relaxing - poly rooms are better as they are larger - but WL rooms can be better for younger kids who like bunkbeds.

Poly roomservice wins hands down - much more choice and more luxurious. WL pool area - prefer this because it has hot tubs.

Recreational options - good at both.

Transportation - both are good, but the poly can't be beaten on a short trip, for the monorail.

Restaurants - both v similar qualities of restaurants but i believe WL doesn't have the character breakfast anymore. As for the counter service ones - I don't like either a lot - but the poly wins as it is open 24 hours.

Childcare - both are good - but the poly is by far the best themed and most exciting for kids - neverland club.

Friendliness of CM's - all seemed extra friendly at both resorts.

Is poly worth the extra? Well, i prefer it on a short trip, as i don't notice the price difference so much over 3 or 4 days. But sometimes i have stayed 14 nights - and i certainly would have felt the price difference if i were paying for the poly as opposed to the lodge.

For my family, the price difference between the two made us choose POLY. We are a family of five. We can stay in a standard room at POLY, but at WL we would have to choose a deluxe - what I believe used to be called Jr. Suites. Having stayed at moderates and at deluxes, the room size difference is sure nice. The POLY, as you know, has larger rooms than the newer deluxe resorts. Whatever you choose, have a magical vacation!! :-) We're going to POLY (and POR) this summer and we're getting our kids the "cook packs" from the WDW Florist as a surprise!!

Thanks for all your input. I think for the money, I've got to go with WL, unless a code comes my way and I can get the Poly cheaper.

I want to stay in Value season, but that would mean the earliest we could go in the summer is right after 4th of July. Am I crazy for going to Florida in July? I really wanted to go the second week of June, but that would be regular season, and maybe four weeks earlier wouldn't make a difference as far as the heat factor.
