so I just booked our first DVC trip at our home resort Poly over July 4! We just went in March so I want to do things a little different this trip.

Can we do 4 nights and not step in the parks and not feel like we are missing something. I don't want to fight the crowds and the heat but we just did all the rides. Does the Poly have pool cabanas we can rent? I thought we would do the pool, Disney Springs, watch fire works on beach, maybe dinner show. Basically just want to relax this trip. I thought maybe to do Universal one day with express pass but that is really expensive.

Let me know what you do on your non park days.

Do you have AP's? We have been to MK and HS just for coffee and to people watch :). Go have lunch at Geyser Point. We did that from Poly. Nice boat rides, very pleasant place.

No AP's. Not sure if we are going in 2018. We might go to Hawaii. If I knew we had a plan trip I would buy AP's. I wish there was an option to enter the park and not ride any rides . I could spend days people watch and shop! I'll check out the boat ride.

Oasis Patio’s
Relax in your own private shaded area close to the pool—complete with cushioned lounge chairs, towels and more!

You can also place food and drink orders to be delivered from the Oasis Bar & Grill—featuring tasty favorites like fish tacos, kalua pork sliders and Polynesian-themed burgers, along with tropical cocktails, wine, Hawaiian beer and assorted beverages (separate dining charges apply).

Oasis Patio’s accommodate up to 6 Guests and are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. For advanced reservations and pricing information, call (407) WDW-PLAY [(407) 939-7529]. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call.

Not an actual cabana, but a covered area with shade at the leisure pool.

I think they're all already booked for July 3 and 4. Poly is crowded both days, and do a varied job on keeping non-resort-guests out. A lot of people try to go there for fireworks from outside the park. Poly block off much of the main beach for Club Level guests.

I am sure you could totally enjoy a trip without going to the parks! You can do a character meal, play mini golf, relax at the pool (oasis and volcano), take a monorail ride to MK and grab a bus to any other resort - especially the boardwalk. Love to stroll the boardwalk!!

When we buy into DVC in probably early next year, with Hilton Head, if the Poly is available in early May 2019 at 7 months out, I plan on doing exactly what your talking about.

I like the thoughts now of a resort only trip. Been to the parks quite a bit the last 12 years and I'm ready for some relaxation.

We're doing a no parks trip in August when we go down to pick our daughter up from her college program. We'll be staying five nights at the Boardwalk. We have the new character breakfast at Trattoria and breakfast at Boma. We're going to rent bikes at Fort Wilderness and then finish up with dinner at Trail's End. Will probably play mini golf. We have water park tickets so will spend a day at Typhoon Lagoon. One night we'll do a progressive dinner around the monorail, ending with watching fireworks from Top of the World, and will probably do something similar one night at the Boardwalk. It will be hot so will try to spend some time relaxing at the pool. I'm having no trouble finding things to do, and I'm really looking forward to it!

As others have noted there are semi-cabanas at the Oasis Pool but they may already be booked for that weekend. I love the Poly but my one gripe is that the two pools always feel very crowded-- there's just not a great amount of seating compared to the size of the resort IMO.

But remember you have pool hopping privileges as a DVC member, so it could be fun to explore another resort and swim there one day too. Or visit a waterpark, Typhoon Lagoon has a new ride and Volcano Bay will have lots of thrill rides if your kids are a little older.

Thanks everyone for suggestions! We decided to buy park tickets mainly to see Avatar. We thought about doing Universal one day but that cost almost as much as my annual pass with Disney. Since we bought the pass, we have more dining choices. I might just do the three fast pass rides each day and spend rest at resort. I am going to try to limit our park hours as much as I can.

It gets very tempting NOT to step into a park when you're there. The last 2 years my husband and I have stayed at the Poly for 4 nights and only went into a park one day. We did Disney Springs, relaxed at the pool, etc. We also did the Highway in the Sky Dine Around so that felt like we 'were doing something'. (If you can get reservations for that... do it!) Enjoy!
