Poly Transportation?

Can anyone tell me what the transportation is like to/from the Poly to each of the parks? I know there is a monorail to MK, but that's it. =)

TIA!

When I stayed there in February I'd say the bus system was average. Never waited incredibly long, but there were quite a few waits. The Poly like always shares a bus with either the GF, Contemporary, or WL. I don't remember one time when we were coming back from a park that it didn't stop at either the Contemporary or the WL. Almost everytime we would get on the bus to go to a park, it would stop at the GF and pick up more people. However, sometimes it would just go straight from the Poly to the park. I'm pretty sure there's not a MK bus and I don't remember seeing an Epcot bus either.

Something to remember - the busses do not travel from resort to resort (unless, of course, the resorts share the same busses).

Don't forget the ferry/boat. I know that you can ride the boat to MK from Poly - I don't know if you can ride the boat to any locations from the poly besides the MK -- but I'ver heard it's beautiful and worth it.

Thanks for the help, we loved that it had a boat. We're starting to get rough ideas/planning for a trip next year, which will be my daughter's first time at WDW. I wanted to make sure that there was great transportation at the Poly before we decided it was definitely where we wanted to stay this time. I've heard that transportation can be less than stellar at some of the resorts, but was pretty sure the Polynesian hadn't been mentioned in those complaints. :)

I booked the Poly a few years ago, excited to stay at a monorail resort. But after the first day, we really didn't use the monorail from the Poly very much. From our longhouse, it was closer to use the boat to the MK. And if you want to take the monorail from the Poly to the TTC to catch a ride to Epcot, it is the very LAST stop before you get back to the Poly (we did not realize this when we got on--but my sister did have a chance to find the 5 legged goat at Contemporary :) ). Don't misunderstand me; I think the Poly is prime location for great transportation. Even though we were in a longhouse at the opposite end, we usually walked to the TTC (it was a short walk--no more than 5-8 mins, I'd say). From there, you can catch the monorail to Epcot, or buses to the other theme parks (I think we found them to be faster than the resort buses--which I believe the Poly shared with the GF). Also, being just a short walk from the TTC means you can ride the Express Monorail from MK and just walk to your room, if the boat or resort monorail seem to be moving too slowly.

Thanks for asking this question. We're a family of 6 staying at the Poly for the 1st time in Nov. and was wondering about the bus system.

Is there just 1 bus stop at the Poly for the whole resort? How long on average do you think you've waited for a bus? Would it be almost quicker to drive yourself?

Here is a great tip when taking a bus back to the Polynesian from Hollywood Studios and the Animal Kingdom. If you see a bus that goes to the TTC and don't see the one for the Polynesian, you can take it to the TTC and from there walk back to the Polynesian.

We've done quite a few stays at the Poly, while the overall beauty of the resort is over shadowed by the bus transportation. We have waited long times for buses, buses came mostly full and have stated to ourselves, for a deluxe resort, one of the original first resort the bus service is awful. Wait times over 30 minutes, very small, one, bus stop does crowd up and waiting for a second bus to a certain location was nuts. I'd have to say of all the resorts we have stayed at, mostly deluxes, Poly had the worst wait times. Sorry, our experience, may be different for others but on the average, terrible for our stays.

We stay at the Poly and don't even bother with the buses anymore. When we go to DHS, DTD or the water parks we just take a cab. My DH hates riding the bus and we hate dealing with waiting at the bus stop and then fighting the crowd to get on a bus that's usually already full.

There are usually cabs parked outside in front of the GCH. I think we paid (w/tip) less than $20 for a one-way trip from the Poly to DHS in 2006. I'm sure with the increase in gas prices the fares will increase too. But, for us, it is so worth the money. No waiting or dealing with crowds and you get to your destination so much faster!

We either take the monorail or the boat to the MK.
We walk to the T&TC to catch the monorail to EPCOT.

Thanks for the tip, CR! This is very helpful to know. =)

This is an issue for all the deluxe resorts that offer an alternative type of transportation. The GF, CR, and Polynesian all have boats available, the monorail or walking ability...so their bus system to the other parks is going to suffer. Same with YC/BC and BW...they have both boats and walking ability to both Epcot and DHS, so their buses to MK and AK tend to suffer a bit.

At the Polynesian, we always walked to the TTC, via the pathway, to get the monorail to Epcot. We usually took the boat to MK but took the monorail if we needed to get to the GF.

Just plan accordingly when heading to AK, DHS or DTD....it can take longer than you might like to get to those areas. The buses don't seem to arrive with the same frequency that they do at lesser resorts. I think that deluxe resorts should offer bus service that is at least as good as, if not better, than the value and moderate resorts. But, it just doesn't seem to work that way.

The Poly has the best transportation at WDW. The monorails to MK & Epcot and a choice of buses - either Poly or TTC. Being in close proximity to the TTC is a huge advantage! Same with the SoG as far as that goes!

I loved going to MK on the boat from Poly. In 2004, we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus to any of the parks. I guess that we were just lucky :thumbsup2 . We walked to TTC to take the monorail to Epcot.

This time we had to stay at the CBR since that was the "host hotel" for the dance school and I will tell you that the bus transportation was awful! We ended up taking a cab to the Poly a couple of times when we had ADR for Kona and Cali Grill which made it much easier. For Cali Grill, we took the cab to Poly then got on the monorail and we made it door to door in about 20 minutes.

A little thing - we are Poly fanatics and would have stayed there this trip if it hadn't been that we were with the dance school. My DH & DDs have already said that next time we'll stay at Poly or CR no matter what:lmao:

Wow, this is a great tip..thank you..we'll staying at the Poly in Sept for the first time. I'm sure this info will be of help to us:)
