What's the best way to get to the Boardwalk from the Polynesian resort for some night entertainment at Jelly Rolls?

The best way to me, would be a cab there and a cab back. Readily available in front of both resorts or if you don't see one, ask the people at the valet desk.

Generally, if relying on Disney transportation, you would take a bus to the Downtown disney/Marketplace area from your resort, then transfer to a bus to your intended destination. Busses to Downtown Disney run the latest. If any of the theme parks are open, you can take a bus to the theme park and transfer to the Boardwalk bus.

Otherwise, private car or cab would be the only other option.

As the pp stated, transferring at a theme park is the best bet when using Disney transportation. From the Poly (assuming MK is open), take the boat or monorail over to MK and hop on a bus to the Boardwalk. For the return trip later at night when the parks are likely to be closed, invest a few dollars in a cab. It will be well worth it to avoid the long trip on the bus transferring at DTD.

The night we plan to go to Boardwalk, Epcot is having extended night hours (i believe they'll be closing at midnight); so do you think I can just take the monorail to Epcot and walk to the boardwalk or will that be a long walk?

It's a long walk, but depends on your stamina. It's probably a 20-min walk or so at average speeds. You've got to pass through the entrance, through all of future world, then in World Showcase, you have to pass through 2 countries to get to the International Gateway. Then you've got about 150 yards to the Boardwalk.

Note that this plan requires a park admission (EPCOT). If you don't have a park hopper and you've already visited a different park that day, this won't work for you.

There is no way to walk from the EPCOT monorail stop to the EPCOT area resorts unless you enter EPCOT and walk through to the back. Even if you have the park hopping feature on your tix, though, I don't recommend this. I've done it, and it is one long walk through EPCOT if you're doing it all at once. It's a different matter if you plan to enjoy some of EPCOT and make your way leisurely to the back of the park to go to the Boardwalk, but in the scenario you describe, it is a foot killer just to get to Jellyrolls.

Like the other posters, I'd recommend the monorail or boat to MK from the Poly, then bus to Boardwalk, or take a cab.

When going to the Boardwalk I would recommend a taxi because it will be the fastest route if you don't have a car while at WDW. However if you want to use WDW transportation take the Resort Monorail or boat to the Magic Kingdom and get on the bus to the Boardwalk.

I'm a DIS newbie and just finished reading your March trip report! Can't wait to hear about your June adventure. We're considering Cali Grille for our October trip : ) Thanks for all the info! It's great to hear of 2 adults going to the parks - we don't have kids and I was worried about nightlife. Glad to know we can have cocktails at Tambu (staying at the Poly)!

No worries Tigger...you can have cocktails at many places in Disney! Staying in Poly you've got Tambu, and you can also hop the monorail to Grand Floridian or Contemporary for drinks at their bars. Catch a bus to Boardwalk for a night at Jellyrolls duelling piano bar or some sports at ESPN, or Coronado Springs for Rix nightclub/bar. Try Port Orleans French Quarter for some live jazz & blues at Scat Cat's over a drink. Or head to AK Lodge and hang at Victoria Falls lounge after checking out the savannah at night. Lots of options! (Oh, and in the parks, Rose & Crown in Epcot is always lots of fun, and Dawa Bar at Animal Kingdom is a great watering hole).
