So DH and I are taking the DD (10) and DS (11) to Disney World this summer. We have a good rate for a studio but just found a great rate through a terrific travel agent for a standard room. We like the idea of the studio having the second shower space for the ease of getting ready and the kitchenette but could save $500 over the course of the stay if we take the standard room. DH also really wants a patio/balcony and if we keep the studio could be ensured to have one. Am I nuts to consider staying in the studio and giving up the great rate? Anyone out there stay in both in the past have any thoughts? Thank you!!

My wife and I just changed from a studio to standard room with almost the identical situation.

Studio advantages for us was 1 bed, nice shower, and microwave. We figured that wasn't worth $500. Shower is such a small part of the day, and we don't spend THAT much time in the room to want the extra space.

We did not like the studio. It felt MUCH smaller due to configuration than a standard room. Not enough storage space either. We did not really use the kitchenette. Honestly, I would have much rather had a washer/dryer in the studio than the extra shower or the kitchenette. Personal pref. though

Considering you would also save $500 I would switch to the standard room and request a balcony/patio. If that is your only or main request I cannot see it not being granted as the majority of the rooms have a balcony or patio.

I have not stayed in a Poly studio, but I would never book one over a standard at Poly. I would much prefer to have two queen beds and a day bed than the queen/pullout/murphy bed in the studio. As PP stated, if balcony/patio are important to you, I would definitely put that in your requests. If that is your primary request, it is very likely it will be honored.

I feel the same way. I prefer a standard room. If you want a microwave in room you can request it. We never felt the need for one. And they have microwaves and toasters in Cooks.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! If anyone else has any other comments, please jump in!

Just wanted to let you know. My wife and I checked again today at the poly studio at the villas ended up being cheaper than a standard room for our deal and dates. You may want to check again. We saved about $100+ by going back to the villas again!

We just got back from staying in a studio and loved it. I left a longer review on the Poly thread if interested. Will your boys sleep in the same bed? If so, I'd go standard room. Since in the studio, you'd have to use the pullout couch for one of them, that sounds like such a bigger pain than if they'll both sleep in the queen in the standard.

On the plus side for studio, those rooms are closer to the ttc which is super convenient for transportation to MK or Epcot.

The DVC side definitely seems more spread out that the hotel side. and the volcano pool is a little farther. I don't think either of those are a big deal though.

Hello. I am bumping this thread for any new thoughts! We are still debating between the 2 different rooms at the Poly for this summer. We currently have the great rate on standard room thru a travel agent but the AP rate for the studio is available. Is the second shower space with a door worth around $500 over the week? Kids are boy and girl age 11 and 9 and will need separate sleep spaces in the room. Thank you!!

I, personally, wouldn't say the shower is worth an extra $500, but how you value money and showers may vary. If that is the sole point on which you are wavering, my question would be: What other uses for that $500 exist for you?
