My husband's aunt and cousin both work for WDW.... they've invited us to stay at the Poly with them for vacation, since they get a discount. (I have no clue what employees get for a room discount...but any discount is okay by me)

Thing is, I hear the Poly is being renovated, however my biggest concern is the musty moldy smell I noticed last time I was there.

Has anyone noticed any improvements in that regard?

Thanks!

I was also concerned about the reports of a musty smell.. However, over the past several months I've noticed several posts that reported that no such smell could be found.

It could be seasonal, how often they water (it is rather 'tropical'), how close you are to the pool... Could be wrong, but I'm no longer very concerned about it.

Good point about the tropical. Any time you have a large collection of tropical plants they have to be watered and kept in a humid climate - I think that probably contributes to what some may perceive as a musty smell. Actually, if you're driving or hiking in the tropical countryside you'd smell something similiar and its just part of the natural environment. ;)

I didn't notice a "musty" smell while I was there (July 6-11th) :confused3

Thanks for the replies....

The smell you are describing is one I am familiar with, and that warm tropical smell is kind of moldy.....smiliar to the island at CBR in August - lol

What I was talking about was a musty "old" smell that I noticed in some of the rooms at the resorts. Sort of an old smoke, old carpet smell.

I'm glad to hear that that hasn't been noticed lately.

Thanks again!
Susan

Honestly, I have never noticed it.......definitely not during our last stay in June (we stayed in Tokelau).

Side Note-

Great pic, Carol! We just ate at O'hana's for the first time in June and LOVED it! Thanks for the suggestions and advice on it over at Magic trips!!!!

We stayed in Hawaii last August and Tahiti the August before. Never smelled anything. Hope that helps. :flower:

I remember those musty threads because I was reading them shortly before our August 2004 trip to the Poly. We found our room beautiful and immaculate. No mustiness, just magic! We loved it so much we are returning this August. :sunny:

We've stayed there 5 times and have never noticed any musty smell. The last trip was in October.

We had a musty room in Hawaii in 2001. They tried to cover it up with cleaning products, which I think made it worse. It was hot & humid, which probably contributed to it. It wasn't anything horrible, just an underlying odor.
I, personally, am waiting for the renovation to be complete before I stay there again.

We have stayed at the Poly many times and have never experienced the musty smell.
We are going back on 8/21! :sunny:

Even though the Poly is among my fav resorts, the rooms definitely have that "aged" feel to them.

I stayed in Tahiti longhouse 18 months ago, and there was no shortage of mold around the HVAC vents and in the bathroom. It was kind of disgusting, but the view out the balcony made me forget about it.

I stayed in Fiji longhouse 7 months ago, and it too wasnt the cleanest. There was months worth of dust buildup around those bed canopy thingies and fixtures and just a general worn look to the room (carpet, bathroom, etc),

The Poly is far from "sanitary" clean, but will be fine for most people who arent phobic about such things.

We have never smelled any mustyness!! :confused3 Infact we were just there and the room and resort were PERFECT!! July 8-11.
