Poly Standard Rooms?

Hi!

Can someone with experience recommend what I should request with regards to standard rooms at the Polynesian? I have seen pictures of wonderful views and some of hallways. I do not expect amazing views, as I ended up in a standard room based on availability, but I don't want to pay Poly money for a hallway either.

I'm not sure what you mean by hallway. There are no Poly rooms with a view of a hallway. Poly standard rooms will typically have a view of one of the pools, the monorail/parking lot (but lots of foliage), the marina or luau cove beach. You may want to look at a map of the resort and see what location you prefer.

You may also want to think about what floor you would prefer. Third floor will have a balcony, first floor a patio, second floor just a window.

I happen to like Rarotonga, quiet pool side, third floor and Fiji, 1st floor, luau cove side.

We requested top floor, Aotearoa and got exactly that. Ended up in the last room facing the MK (3217?). It's a standard view, but we could see the castle and the fireworks It was perfect.

I read somewhere on here last week, I think on the Polynesian page, like 298 pages in, where someone posted pics of their just stunning beautiful view. the next post said they had an awful view of a hallway and that they were just sick thinking of what they paid for such a view. Like I said, I do not expect a theme park view for a standard price, but if there are certain areas to requests for some more lush views, I would love that.

Fiji has the best Standard rooms........by far.

By it is FAR from the main Building

I think FAR is an overstatement. Poly is by no means a spread out resort.

Far is definitely an overstatement. From our room in Fiji, we could walk to the main building and be in Captain Cook's refilling our drink in 60 seconds or less.

We request Fiji building when we stay, and love getting either the marina or beach view you can get there.

Fiji is further afield of the TTC, but it adds maybe 5 minutes to the walk, and it's a nice walk. And that's if you're walking with kids.

There is rarely a comment about the Niue-building, I think because there are just a handful of rooms located.

Would it make sense to request Niue? Pros? Cons?

It really depends on where you want to be and what kind of view you want. For me, Niue is smack dab in the middle of everything with pools on two sides, so too chaotic for my tastes. It also only has two floors, with patios on the first floor and just a window on the second. Wouldn't be my first choice, but if that sounds good to you, go for it!

Regardless, you need to request 3rd floor in addition to the view since they have balconies while 2nd floor rooms do not. You wouldn't go wrong with either building.

For example, "third floor" "first floor" "name of longhouse" "close to elevator" "quiet room", etc. That way the room assigner knows what you are looking for in a room. On our last trip we simply listed "third floor" "away from construction".

I did not see the photos of the view but I believe the comment about a hallway view must have been a standard view in Tuvalu where some of the rooms look right at the end of Fiji and you would be able to see down the hall of Fiji. It is the least desirable standard view in my opinion but there are only a few rooms like that. You can request a different building but there is no guarantee you will get your request. The only way to avoid that for sure is to book a Lagoon or Themepark view room.

I personally prefer Samoa and Niue for their views and location to everything. Fiji is nice also and I agree with _auroraborealis_ and Oswin. Nothing at the resort is far. You can walk the resort from the Luau to the TTC path in about 7 or 8 minutes. Fiji is a less than a minute walk to the GCH (lobby). My only complaint about staying on the other side of the marina was I was going to the pool a lot and it got frustrating for me to see the pool so close but have to walk around the whole marina to get over to it. Still not a long walk but from Samoa I was seconds from the pool. Just my own issue with that location.

I personally have never found it to be chaotic over at Niue or Samoa and it is my first pick for when I stay standard view. Many love Rarotonga also. There are not very many bad standard views at the resort.

We really had a "parking lot" view but the way they did the landscaping we wouldn't have known. The patio had lots of plants around it so we only knew there was the monorail, walking path, and then parking lot just past the brush because we were familiar with the layout of the resort. You couldn't see any of it. We were on the ground floor though. I imagine the upper floors could see right over that.

I loved the location simply because when it rained I only had to be uncovered for less than a foot and we actually bought and used refillable mugs because it was a quick walk to Captain Cooks.

That would be Rarotonga. One of the benefits of Rarotonga, Niue and Samoa is you can get from the Great Ceremonial House to those longhouses in the rain without getting wet. You can even get over to Hawaii through those longhouses to stay dry.

We stayed in Raotonga, on the second floor facing the quiet pool. The view was fine we barely looked out the widow because of not having a balcony to be honest. I was concerned about the size of the resort too. It really not as large as it looks. I was pleasantly surprised. Rarotonga was really convienantly located to everything

Sorry to jump in here but can you all clarify something for a newbie. Some of the photos on trip advisor etc showing the 3 floors show balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors but reading this thread it sounds like that's not right? It's been mentioned that 2nd floor rooms don't have balconies. Is it that some do and some don't depending on which building you are in? Any help much appreciated as we are trying to save up to stay here.

Only the longhouses that have DVC Studios have balconies on both upper floors. The longhouses with the regular Hotel rooms have no balconies on the second floor.
