Has anyone heard rumors or any, or anticipates there being one in the future?
I'm thinking of adding points but as i already have this years trip booked, am interested in taking advantage of a deal like having an extra year of points like the VGF had last year....

As far as I can tell, there's no need for a special. Poly is in demand. The only 2014 points I've heard of them "giving" is if your UY is June - Dec so that you'll have points to use come April.

VGF has never had any specials that I heard of and unless Poly sales are extremely slow I don't think there will be any there either. What you may be thinking of is if you purchase just prior to the start of your UY you will get current points which you can bank and will have your next years points available quickly - in essence like getting 2 years worth of points although it is just the timing of the purchase. You will pay pro-rated MF's for the calendar year you buy in.

The 'extra' year's points are a trick. Take my Aug UY. If I were to buy PBV tomorrow and my guide were to say that I am lucky because I get free 2014 points that would be a trick because we are still in our 2014 UY (Aug 1, 2015 would be the start of my NEXT UY), so of course I will get them...that's not a deal. It's good that I'd get them as the UY before April will not get them (since the resort doesn't open until April), but it's not a special or anything.

Not only will there be no specials but the price will go up.

Agree.

The guides who tell you that you get an "extra" year of points as an incentive to purchase are telling you a lie. They don't all do this of course, but a lot of them do.

You will receive, and will pay for, 50 years worth of points if buying PVB this year. Going down per year, and likely purchasing for more money, if you buy there direct in subsequent years.

Barring a 2008-like economic crash, I'm pretty confident that there will never be any incentives for the Polynesian. Just the opening pricing, and then the standard. Plus price increases- which will be either justified if it sells faster than expected; or justified if it sells slower in order to provide a marketing boost ("buy before the increase!)"

It's good to be the mouse.

Not sure where the idea that getting an extra year of points was some kind of special. Once VGF had been opened for a while into 2014 members could purchase in 2014 and get 2013 points as long as their use year started April or after and they purchased before their 2013 use year ended. That was no "special" except possibly in the minds of some fast talking salesmen, since that it is just normal sales procedure that Disney has done with new resorts for years after they have already been opened. That "special," if that is what you want to consider it, already exists for Poly if your exisitng use year is June or after since if you buy now you get 2014 points and any upcoming 2015 points. The only "special" deal VGF ever had is the same one Poly is having right now in that exising members have a short period to buy at $5 a point less than what the price will be when sales open to the general public in February.

Though I cannot say you will never see a real special deal with Poly, I believe I can safely say it won't happen unless Disney's sales are weak and weak enough to threaten some high ups job if improvement does not occur.

Consider yourself lucky that DVD did not apply the same UY limit with PVB as it did at VGF. VGF opened in October 2013 and DVD backdated the UY only six months: April 2013 was the first UY to receive points. The February and March UYs did not get their first allocations until the start of their 2014 UYs, four and five months after the resort opened.

If DVD had applied the same six month limit with PVB, then October 2014 would have been the first UY to receive an allocation of PVB points. Members with an August UY like yourself would not be getting their first PVB allocation until August 2015 -- four months after the opening of the resort.

DVD could have been even more strict with PVB than it was with VGF. There was speculation here on the disboards that DVD could not offer any points before the February 2015 UY, thereby cutting off any 2014 UY points to any member. Luckily, that didn't happen.

I can venture a guess why DVD is being more liberal in PVB's case than it was it VGF's case. But regardless of why DVD changed its practice, its benefiting more members like yourself.

VGF never had any "specials." Aluani, like every other DVC resort, has had several specials. (Even while they sold VGF)
It will be interesting how it plays out.

Call me the odd ball..

I think the 160$ price tag is a special.. I feel they could have raised it 5 or 10$ and the sales #s would not have changed..
So .. I feel I did get a 5$ discount.. :rotfl2:
