Poly Room Assignments

Thank you mickeyman. I went ahead and recommended the following room request list to my friend:

3914
2914
3913
2913
3915
2915
1914

I believe those 7 have at least a partial lake view.

Thank you all for your help on this effort. My friend added that Room Request list to his PVB Standard View Studio reservation, and he got the first choice! Room 3914. The view from his balcony:

PVB%20Standard%20View%20Room%203914_zpsivllld16.jpg

Pretty nice for a SV. Better than most of the 1st floor Lake View rooms, IMO. Feel free to use the room number list as needed. And Good Luck!!

Wow - so this is a standard view studio??

Can I ask how you came up with this list of room numbers to request? I haven't seen any maps that show room numbers. I'm assuming these are the furthest up on the lake end of Tokeleau with the even numbers being on the castle side? I don't have very good luck putting in requests but wanted to put one in for our trip in June. I've only requested actual room numbers once (for VGC) and it didn't work out. TIA

Did he just call and add these numbers to his reservation??

I didn't know you could make room number requests. How do you do that?!

I have to add that getting a specific room is very rare. Basically ValpoCory's friend won the room lottery.

That room is on the end of the building and that view is from the end of the balcony. The room on the other side of the building will have a similar view. Lower floors other than 3rd will have obstruction by trees. Others will have a view only if you lean out and look to your right or left. We have stayed in these rooms before it became DVC.

The risk you run when you ask for specific rooms is if they are not available you might get something completely different and not even near.

Yep, a SV studio. Amazing. And unlike BLT and VGC and many others, room number request lists are really hard to find for the PVB. So I had to do the room number research myself, with some help from those on here who told me which buildings/room numbers were considered LV and which SV.

Then I found that website I listed earlier from Touring Plans that had some pictures. But most of those pictures are looking straight out. The picture I listed above is my friends walking out on the balcony and turning 90 degrees to the right. The Top 4 rooms on my list above will have a similar view to this. The next 3, slightly different and not as good. And the even/odd number thing is not as important since the longhouse is almost perpendicular with the Castle (i.e. Room 3913, walk out and turn to your left).

As lcur77 mentioned above, DVC Members or the DVC Member you are renting from can call Member Services. As a renter, if you don't want to bother your DVC owner with this, you can wait until your trip is less than 10 days away and directly call the number of the resort listed on Google ((407) 824-2000 for the Poly ... not actually the Poly front desk, but it works) yourself, and tell the Cast Member that you would like to add a room request to your reservation. So no Member Services involvement at that point.

The VGC is much more laid back. For my January 2013 trip, I rented points, and the front desk took my room number request months in advance. But for WDW DVC, renters have to wait for the 10 day mark.

Thanks Sammie. I agree. They won the room lottery for sure to get that #1 choice. My first time seeing that. I will say that I've put in room requests for my stays and my friends stays 6 times and been lucky to get one of the list all 6 times.

Jan 2016 -- Hit Choice #1 of 7 specific PVB SV Studio rooms requested
Dec 2015 -- Hit Choice #7 of 8 for a BLT SV Studio (got castle/monorail facing 7328 .. after which I would have chosen this room about 4th on my list)
Jan 2015 -- Hit Choice #3 of 5 for BLT SV 1 BR
Jan 2015 -- Hit Choice #4 of 5 for BLT SV 1 BR
Jan 2013 -- Hit Choice #4 of 10 for VGC Studio room (the often requested top 4 of 6504, 5504, 4504, 3504 :) )
Jan 2012 -- Hit Choice #3 of 6 BLT LV 2-BR

So it pays to have a long list of room numbers. The longer your list, the better your odds. But room requests are definitely not guaranteed. So don't expect it, and hopefully you get a bit of Magic.

That is a long list of room numbers. What is your friend expecting when none of those rooms are available? Wouldn't be better to ask for the north end of Tokelau closest to the beach? If would give the assigner more flexibilty.

I don't buy it, I expect the assigning CM will look at the first three only and just assign you anything after that. If they take that much time to look at a long list of requests on every reservation, they never get their job done.

We have a stay booked on our points for June. Standard studio. What are the online check-in options for Poly dvc?

That definitely could be true for some cast members. I was told to make my room number requests long by another DVC member who swears by it. I'm glad I made my BLT SV Studio list 8 deep for my stay last month, as I got my 7th choice. Had I not, we may have been assigned a Bay Lake facing room.

We arrived at the CR/BLT around 11am on the Magical Express bus. A Contemporary Resort CM met us and checked us in without even going to the front desk. She looked at her iPad and told me my room was not ready but happily said, "I can tell you we were able to satisfy one of your room requests". A few hours later, they texted me my room number. So me getting my 7th choice wasn't just a coincidence.

Of course, the only reason this works is that most people don't do it. So in that respect, I appreciate skeptics :).

For the PVB standard view studios, once you get past these top 7 room views or so, the rest are about the same. I set his expectations accordingly so he wouldn't get his hopes up. He texted me that picture and his gratitude soon after though.

The website says this:

"Online Check-In
Start your check-in online beginning 60 days before your stay at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Then when you arrive, simply head to the Online Check-In Desk, where your Welcome Folder and Key to the World card will be waiting. Show your valid photo I.D., complete your check-in and you’re on your way!"

Although your Key to the World card is now likely your Magic Bands.

Oh right but there usually some options once actually start the check in process like check first floor or near elevator. I wonder what the options are for Poly.

This is awesome! We've been lucky with our room requests at BLT, where we usually stay, but having never stayed at PVB before, I had no idea where to begin! Hope we get lucky too with our SV studio stay!

Good luck to you! Once I made this list and realized what it meant, I had to share it. It's just too good to not share it with my fellow DISers, even if it ultimately means the room request trend catches on more, and I miss out in the future. Helping others get a great room view is part of the Magic for me. Plus, it was a good way to Pay it Forward from the great BLT thread that helps me make my room requests.

Part of me thinks he got Room Request #1 because so few people at the PVB Standard View do specific room requests. But that's only part of it. Most of it is luck that the room wasn't taken by a random guest.

My buddy still can't believe the room. He sent me two more Room 3914 pictures from earlier tonight:

Looking almost straight out (slightly turned to the right):

Better Castle picture, looking right on the balcony:
