So excited to be staying at the Poly for my first time in February! 2 questions-
1. I just saw a post referencing possible pool construction for January. Does anyone have any more details? We are staying Feb 22-24. If the pool is closed it’s a definite deal breaker and we will look to stay somewhere else.

2.we have a lake view room. Would love to be in the 3rd floor and be able see MK fireworks from our balcony. Any recommendations for a room request? Is the water pageant also visible from the balconies?
Thank you!

For 2, just ask for third floor. It is what all lake view bookings ask for, honestly, so your odds are so so. The more you ask, like a specific unit, the less likely any of the request is granted.

We have the exact opposite experience with requests. We will ask for specific units -- specific room numbers (if we have one at a particular place) in addition to the more general request tagged on. In our experience, we sometimes get the exact room (at least 10 times or so this has happened) and if not, we get something very nearby to that specific request. We have found that requesting a specific gives us better results. The request would be something like "Room 4407, or similar highest-floor-possible theme park view" (in that case, for Grand Floridian Club Level).

All in all I always make room requests and literally 95% of the time I am very happy with what they've done. The final piece of the puzzle is that I never do online check-in because I like to ask at the front desk which room we were assigned. On the rare occasions when a request wasn't met to our satisfaction, we will ask the front desk CM if they can find one closer to our request. That works almost always to our satisfaction (if it's something we really want they may say "I can do xx, but the room's not ready. Will you wait?" If it's a request that's important to us, we will wait. But the point is that this is another opportunity to get the room/location you really want vs. what had been pre-assigend.

I have not seen any refurb notices for the pool. Poly is our home resort so I keep pretty close tabs on it. The splashpad was closed for a period of time last winter (I believe Jan-March) but nothing announced yet for 2022.

Request 3rd floor for the best unobstructed views. You will be able to see the water pageant from there as well. Enjoy!! We will be there in March and can’t wait.

We’re staying in January. Do you think they’d close the splash pad again?

I don’t think it’s an annual occurrence. There was (is) a lot of refurbishments happening at the Poly so I think it was wrapped up into all of that.

That sounds like hotel side, not DVC side.

DVC tends to operate a bit differently.

Both. For us, DVC doesn't operate differently at all. We are DVC owners at three resorts. We always do this -- if anything, I find DVC actually to be even better at hitting the exact room for us. Two years in a row our exact VGF villa and three years in a row our exact Vero Beach Villa ;) So the exact same approach for both. And in the VGF example, when they didn't hit our exact room request, they did give us the same room but one floor lower, which was totally fine as it acheived our objectives for that room request. DVC CMs, in my experience, do a stellar job at this (even though nothing is ever guaranteed, they do try in our experience). We have a week coming up in a Polynesian Bungalow. We requested an exact bungalow, or to be within two on either side of it. So we'll see how this one goes :)
