What are good room/building requests do you ask for and why?

We had a standard room. Our room number was 6455. It was quiet. We looked out onto the water. I loved it. Picture compliments of Touring Plans. We were close to the smaller pool. Which was fine with me. It's not close to the main building but it wasn't a long walk.

Great view from Pop :thumbsup2
but OP is asking about The Poly. :)
LOL. Yep. I see that. Sorry. Well, just in case you are looking for a good room at POP now you know. Sorry about that. Let's just chalk it up to being tired. I was just getting ready to delete it, because I realized that I read it wrong, when I saw it already had a comment. So I am leaving it for comic relief. LOL. I'm still shaking my head that I read it as POP and not the POLY.

It depends on the view category you have booked, in my opinion.
I agree with this. Along with considerations such as whether you want to be close to the Great Ceremonial House, or a view is more important even if it's a bit of a walk to the lobby. But yes, the room view category to plan to go with can have an impact on the suggestions.

My fav was Samoa, before they further split the views. Before it was considered standard view. Loved location. Very central to everything and great view of Volcano pool, and GF in the distance. Fiji is nice, the rooms facing GF have nice views, but again, the rooms facing the Marina now are water view. Disney has to get every last dime out of you.
If you’re staying in the DVC side, Tokelau is great. Very central. I liked the beach end of the building.

If you've booked a standard view room, we really love Rarotonga, third floor. The longhouse is incredibly close to both the GCH, TTC and quiet pool area. I found it particularly convenient in a rainstorm!

We always have a standard room at the Poly. We have stayed on both the 1st and 3rd floor or Rarotonga and the 1st floor of Niue. Our Niue room was probably the most convenient - our patio faced toward the little turf area where they do the torch lighting. It was so close to the main building and the quiet pool. The Rarotonga rooms were great too. I slightly prefer the first floor rooms just because the elevator in Rarotonga is a little rickety and it scares me a bit.

Hello all! We are in the same boat as OP. We have a Standard View room (I guess actually called a Garden view?) booked for November. Never stayed at Poly before...or anything above a value resort for that matter. I'm trying to get caught up on building names and locations at Poly, and I'm seeing some posts of Garden View rooms being able to see water, or the fireworks, etc.

Basically, our wish list is this:

A new Moana themed room
View of something other than a parking lot or monorail, and preferably not staring directly at a tree trunk
1st or 3rd floor

Anyone have a building and room reccomendation?

This is probably old and forgotten news since we stayed there last in 2010.
We always requested the Tokelau building, which I don't even see identified as such on a current map. We had stayed there several times in the past and always enjoyed the location. On the last stay we were about midway down facing the small pool.
Why? We always drove and unloaded the car ourselves. There is a small parking lot to the right of the main entrance/lot which was an easy walk to the building. It was in between the TTC and the main Longhouse so you could go to the restaurants or walk to the monorail station. We mostly used the small pool rather than the volcano pool which was right out the door. Worked well for our purposes.
Since it's not listed on the map, did it get converted to something else?

I did a quick search, and I see what you mean, some maps do not have it shown. I stayed in Tokelau in 2018 and to my knowledge, it’s still there.

Tokelau along with Moorea and Pago Pago are now DVC units. To stay in one of those building, you would need to reserve a Studio at the Polly Villas.

Tokelau is one of the long houses that got converted to DVC in 2015 along with Moorea and Pago Pago. We stayed at Tokelau in 2018 (direct cash purchase from WDW) and loved the location. We were halfway down facing the Oasis pool on the second floor. We could see the fireworks at night from our balcony which was great for our younger kids at the time.
