Just got back from a 7 night stay at Aulani and stayed in a 2BR OCEAN VIEW Villa. Stayed for 490 points!
Poly 2BR Bungalow for the exact SAME time frame is 993 points!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? That is a lot of points! I would have to bank and borrow for all 3 years JUST TO STAY there 1 week!!!

I think Disney got this ALL wrong! Just my .02 cents worth... WHO figured the points out? And why aren't they fired???

I imagine they will fill up with dvc members... I WILL NOT be one of them.. So let's do logic here... 490 points for a Pacific Ocean view or 993 for a "lake" view??? Hmmmm..
YES.. I know.. You can see fireworks from the 993 point view... But I don't think they are worth DOUBLE the points... For that price, I could buy a LOT of fireworks...
MAYBE even hire someone to do professional fireworks for me!!!! I like the idea of the bungalows, but the price structure is WAY OFF.... Again.. my .02 cents worth.......

The bungalows are a unique niche type of unit. That's why the astronomical points. I won't ever be able to stay in one either, but what those people are getting is different, not a normal 2 or 3 bedroom. Each bungalow has a perfect straight on view of the castle and fireworks, with the fireworks music played on each deck with private speakers. And then all the other features that are unique to a bungalow, the hanging chairs on the deck, plunge pool, plus being out over the water with a private dock entrance. It's just a unique experience that no other unit offers, so they're pricing it kind of high. I don't think they're expecting most people to stay for a week in one though, unless they have that many points or purchased a fixed week.

The real SHOCKER for me is when you compare the cost of a 2 bedroom ocean view vs a studio ocean view at Hawaii and even VGF

The DVC point cost of a 2 bedroom ocean view villas at Hawaii (and lake view at VGF) costs around 2.7x the cost of a ocean view studio (and lake view studio)

The DVC point cost of a 2 bedroom Polynesian bungalow costs 5.7x the cost of a Polynesian lake view studio

Renting those same amount of points, you would have enough cash for airfare from any major city in US to the real Bora Bora where you could stay in a real over-the-water bungalow. AND you would have money left over. I actually priced it!

I wouldn't stay there for long but I could see us booking 1 night mid trip (we always do spilt stays AKV/VGF) between VGF and AKV for the novelty value.

NO INTEREST in using points for a bungalow, even for 1 night, TOO FRUGILE with my points! We also stayed at Aulani in a 2BR..We lucked out with a beautiful ocean view in the Long Wing and didn't book an ocean view category.:thumbsup2 Am however, LOOKING FORWARD to our stay at the Poly in a studio in October!:cool1:

image.jpg The points for the bungalow are crazy to some but I don't think they are that bad. It is a premium vacation product. It is not prices for joe mainstream. It is priced to compete with premium products.

Have you priced a cruise recently?
Ncl has the haven as a premium product. The largest room on most ships hold 6 people.

The cost is over $20,000 a week for a 2 bedroom.

For $15,000 you can go to bora-bora for 8 people?

The best prices I have found are about 2500 for 5 nights, and everyone has to have passports!

The bungalows are extremely high for points needed when you consider the market DVC targets, i.e., you need to be in that much maligned "upper 1%" to be able to afford the points for a week in a bungalow and that group is not your typical DVC purchaser. However, for Disney this is a no lose, can only win situation. The huge number of points applicable to the bungalows can be sold to anyone who wants or can afford just a studio, with the result that Disney will make huge sale profits on the bungalows while selling them mostly to members who cannot afford them and will not use them. Moreover, those members will bear the cost of maintenance and repair of the bungalows year round via dues. It is likely that the bungalows will be left open by DVC members many times of year, not so much during DVC's high demand last quarter of the year but likely during much of DVC's low to moderate demand season from mid-Jan to late Sep. Disney will thus get to rent the bungalows to the public far more often than any other DVC rooms, possibly using incentives such as rental discounts and access to concierge, with the rental income coming free of the expenses of maintenance, repair, and property taxes, while only a small portion of the rental income needs to be returned annually as "breakage income" to offset dues. Of course, the studios will be purposefully but legally oversold with the result that your DVC members may face problems getting them even at 11 months out some times of the year, although the sheer number of studios might have a chance of avoiding that. Net result, members may end up having some inconveniences but Disney makes huge profits no matter what occurs. In other words, no one is being fired because it was a brilliant plan from the standpoint of making profits for Disney.

We have the points but no interest in staying in a bungalow, way over priced for what you get IMO.
Disney and DVC seem to be pushing prices to the extreme, at some point the public will decide that they are not worth it and Disney will offer some free food or other perk to increase the perceived value.

IMHO a one night stay is not enough time to really enjoy the resort. You can't get in your room before 4pm and you must be out by 11am. I wouldn't unpack. I think Disney is trying to establish an elite category of DVC. It is sad to me. As PP said more exclusive incentives will probably be offered.

I agree that the Poly points are a little high, but they are a pretty unique vacation offering. We intend to try them some time, but we often do split stays. We'll get them for 2 or 3 nights in a couple of years, assuming they are possible to get at the 7 month mark. They hold some interest for me. The poly studios hold none. Unless they can eventually guarantee two connecting studios, I doubt we'll ever stay in one.

I think they are ridiculous too. We will never stay in one even for a night or two because I'm not willing to blow that many points that quickly on a day or two trip. The same reasons that are stated above about the overselling is the same reason that I'm extremely nervous about the cabins being built at VWL. With so few villas, I'm worried that we'll have a hard time getting a reservation at our own home resort.

It would be nice to stay there, but for the number of points, you will never see my family there. We could save points, rent them and pay for my entire retirement.

I was at the Poly over the weekend and I can tell you that if I was in Bungalow 15-20 (especially 18-19-20) I would NOT be happy as the noise from the ferry boat horns is a constant jolt every 15 mins or so.

The Poly Bungalow points are about the same as the other top rooms at the newer resorts (Grand Villas at BLT, GFV, Aulani) The Grand Villas may sleep more at max capacity, but many of us don't fill rooms to max capacity. I have gotten one bedrooms for 2 and two bedrooms for 4 and Grand Villas for 5 people. You could get a one bedroom for 2 couples but some of us prefer a bedroom for each couple.

The Bungalows also have unique features that make for a unique vacation beyond what is provided in a regular two bedroom or Grand villa with the plunge pool and being surrounded by water.

The number of points would force me to pool multiple years of points, but some years I go on vacations that aren't Disney and that just happens. Two years of points would get me a nice 5 days in a bungalow during value season.

I would bet it will be hard to get those 5 days.

Everything is relative. We are about to drive to WDW for our second trip this calendar year and our third trip since last November. We will have spent 33 nights in DVC accommodations over those three trips.

We have friends who would like to go to Disney and they are hoping to scrape together 4, maybe 5 nights, on one trip. They will probably stay in a Value Resort if they go, and it will probably be their only trip to Disney for many years to come.

To our friends, we probably seem to be the "1%-ers" who can splurge on Disney vacations. I just feel we are darn fortunate to afford what we want when it comes to Disney vacations. Likewise, I don't begrudge those who can afford even more fancier vacations than us.

We walked by the Bungalows last week. The boat horns and lack of privacy made them so unappealing to us. Then again- I found the Poly to be very blah overall.
