Poly or WL

Hi, I am starting to plan next summer's vacation and had a question that I hope people have an opinion on. My wife and I have 4 children and usually rent a home when we go to Disney. Next year, we intend to stay at a Disney hotel. But being a family of 6, we have to rent 2 rooms. The convenience of transportation is one of the biggest factors. We would probably be spending more time in Magic Kingdom than any other park. It would cost us about a $1000 more for the 2 rooms at Poly than WL, but it might be worth it just to have the monorail. Am I crazy to pay that much more just for the convenience. Also, how is the transportation from WL to the other parks. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the Dis!

I'll let you know abt WL later this month, we're leaving in 18 days!!

Don't forget, you have a direct boat from WL to MK. If you're planning on spending most of your time at MK, the monorail would be of no advantage.

Last on-site trip for us was at CR. Mono-rail was nice, but it was only "direct" to MK. To get to Epcot required a transfer at TCC. I think I'd have rather had a direct bus.

There is also a direct boat to FW, where there is a petting zoo, pony rides, campfire, movies, horseback riding, etc. Plus one of the best buffets (I'm told) at WDW for a very reasonable price. Something to consider with children. You might want to take a break from the parks for some "old fashioned" entertainment.

Good luck,

Thanks Kimberle. It's true they do have the boat to take you to MK. I wonder how crowded it is getting back after the fireworks?

I agonized over the same thing and in the end chose the Poly. I figured I could roll sleeping kids on and off the monorail and for a short walk could take the monorail directly to epcot. Both are fine. Poly rooms are slightly larger but WL rooms have option of bunk beds if yours are into that sort of thing (mine are two and four and would just have massive head trauma!). From what I understand both have great restaurants. Consider splitting your stay if over a week to defray costs and let you try both.

Post your question on WL FAQ and Kimmar's Merry Band of WL VETS will give you a lot of feedback to help you decide.

It's mobbed! We waited almost 2 hours for a boat after the fireworks once. Never again! I love the theming of the WL and would love to stay there again if the transportation wasn't so spotty. We have since stayed at the Poly twice and will be there again in October. The monorail access to the MK is wonderful! We had to wait 15 minutes for an empty monorail to take us back the the Poly after the fireworks. Big difference! The Poly is also beautifully themed as much as the WL only differently. It has become our favorite resort. Your kids will love the volcano pool and huge beach right next to it. There is nothing better then sitting poolside and being able to see your kids playing in the beach sand while getting a great view of the MK. And don't forget the delicious Lava Flow drinks that Rose the bartender serves up at the poolside bar! :p

For me it is a no brainer... definitely the Poly. Ease of transportation, great tropical, romantic beaches, large rooms, terrific theming, awesome restaurants and a view of the Magic Kingdom. Love that new Vocano Pool too!

No question - It's the Poly. Better hotel, great location, and on the monorail is bonus. Stay at the Poly.
