I have booked a trip for myself, DH and DS 5 for September. As right now, we are all set for a lagoon view room at the Poly. Should I consider the GF? Can someone help with pros and con? I chose the Poly because I liked the theme and I think that my son would love the pools. I am not sure when we will be back to WDW so I want to make the most of our family trip. I am afraid that we are not quite "gf" people. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the DIS!

We have stayed at both too many times to count. You will get great responses and ideas. I LOVE both of these resorts. I think your 5 year old would love the POLY's pools and atmosphere. The Poly..my first and still my favorite!
You can't go wrong with either!

We too have stayed at both. Both are lovely resorts with spacious rooms. Both have great pools and children's programs. Both are monorail resorts. They do, however, have very different themes. Poly is very laid back, our room was quite dark and restful. Our room at the GF this last trip had morning sun and was cheerfully decorated in florals and an Alice in Wonderland motif. Both will accomodate 5 comfortably so either resort will give you pleny of room to spread out. The GF seemed a bit quieter tha nthe Poly to us, but was by no means stuffy, just quietly elegant. The poly pool is great looking, when we were there they closed it for sanitizing so the girsl didn't get to try it out. The pool at the GF is also a waterfall slide, on the beach, zero entry. The GF has a hot tub, whereas the poly does not if tha t makes a difference. I guess the biggest concideration is going to be the price, is there enough of a difference to sway you one way of the other? The Poly has the aded benefit of being right next to the TTC so you can walk over if you like and catch a monorail to EPCOT. We did find the bus to MGM a long wait at the GF, but that was just a minor inconvenience one time only. Have fun exploring your options. I don't think you'll go wrong either way. The GF does, however, give you the opportunity to have a better view of the MK from your balcony since it is closer. Good luck!

I'd choose Poly, too. I like the theming better. But- if you like GF then stay there. Don't feel that you aren't "gf" people- if you are staying there, then you are. We saw all types at GF- everything from people dressed up to guys in "git r done" hats :teeth:

POLY, POLY, POLY!!!! We love the POLY!! The kids love the pool and slide. It is so relaxing. Good luck!! :earsboy:

The Grand Floridian! :goodvibes Don't feel that you're not Grand Floridian type of people, because they're isn't such a thing! :) I wore sweats the whole time and never felt out of place. Mostly everyone was in casual clothes. The themeing of the resort is turn of the century Victorian, that's why it may seem a little fancy but it's not. :flower:

The resort is SO beautiful. We stayed in Conch Key and it was decorated in Alice in Wonderland which we loved.

The Grand Floridian has an Alice in Wonderland tea party that the little kids can attend for about $28.00
There's also a Pirate Cruise for kids which is about $28.00
The GF has an Adventure in Cooking Program for kids where they make yummy treats, decorate their aprons and they can hand out the treats they made to guests in the lobby. We saw a bunch of kids handing out their creations in the lobby. It was SO cute! It cost about $28.00

Here is a link from allearsnet about the different kids programs at the Grand Floridian: http://www.allearsnet.com/pl/grandadven.htm

The GF also has the 1900 Park Fare buffet which has a character breakfast and dinner. The breakfast has Mary Poppins, Alice, the Mad Hatter, and Pooh. The dinner has Cinderella, Prince Charming, and the Fairy Godmother.

The GF is one stop away from the Magic Kingdom. Also the monorail transportation is great when you have kids. You can take the monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center and get onto the monorial that goes to Epcot.

You'll have a great time no matter what resort you choose. :flower:

Mmmmmmmm, 1900 Park Faire! I think it's one of the best buffets WDW has, both dinner and breakfast! But, don't get me wrong, Ohana is very good too!

Is the Poly pool better then the Boardwalk Inn pool for kids?

My goal has been to try each different resort and had always wanted to stay in the Polynesian- I loved it!!! I want to go back but my husband has been waiting patiently to try Port Orleans- Riverside so that's where we're joining in July. My older daughter had a blast in the pool even though she was only two at the time!
