Poly or GF?

I posted a thread two days ago asking the same question, scroll ahead to the next page, I reeceived over five pages of responses, some were very interesting, but ultimately, I have decided to leave the decision up to my kids after they look at photos and read about both, after all for me, its really about them. DD14 DD13 and DD12

I would rather stay at the poly ... Since you have kids your kids would love the poly. They have a great pool and you can just sit outside on the beach and watch wishes ... if you would like to see some pictures of the Poly , I am going to add some soon !!!

We can always tell who the "business" people are that are coming from the GF or CR. They seem to have a "strut" about them that their "*&^%$#" doesnt stink. Their noses are a bit "up in the air" and they look at you as though you are "inferior" to them.
When my family and I have stayed at the Contemporary the guests we have seen who are there on conventions are always respectful to others and are minding their own business. Plus sometimes they bring their families down with them so it becomes a working vacation for them. As for the Grand Floridian in all the times we have visited there once again we never had any problems with guests there for business and etc.

I can say to the OP I have stayed at he GF and it is wonderful! The people and CM are so nice. I have 4 very young children and I did not run into one unkind guest while at the GF, just the opposite. Our family felt like we were at HOME!

Also, to those who feel the need the label the guest at the GF why don't I help you expand your vocabulary, try "civilized", "classy", or "well-mannered". You've all really run the words "snooty" and "uppity" in to the ground.

Sorry, but from what I've heard the Poly can get quite rowdy around the pool when the drunks are toasted by noon. No place for my kids!

Speaking as the girl who has stayed at ALL levels at Disney I have run into ill-mannered guest all over. The GF WAS the exception!

Well said.

Those who are making a big fuss about how "NOT SNOOTY" the Red Roof Inn is are the ones who have the guilty consciences. :rotfl:

It does amaze me sometimes when I read generalizations about the group of people who stay at one type of hotel, whether it be value or deluxe.

I have stayed at the Contemporary and never had a problem with the business people being uppity.

At the end of the day, the OP just has to make the right decision for HER and HER family. Period.

No matter WHAT hotel you ask about, there will always be people that love it and people that hate it. I wouldn't stay at CSR if you PAID me, yet there are others that would live there. That's just the way it is...

That's why Disney is so great. There are many choices for everyone!

Can't go wrong with either resort...as they're both beautiful. Although the Poly is our families favorite! :)

I think it is unfair to label groups of people as "snooty" or "uppity" simply because they are traveling on business. Besides, they are different people, occupations varying week to week, some maybe thrilled to be there, others rather wish they did not have to travel. I can understand not wanting to be in the middle of crowds of a convention, but be against the people themselves??

The OP has stayed at GF and loved it!!! Was not looking for an evaluation of the guests , only a comparison of the two resorts.

Maybe the people waiting for the monrail weren't thinking others around them were "inferior", but glad their boring meetings are over so they can be in the parks with their spouse and kids!!:)

Good luck choosing OP, they are both beautiful resorts with (like anywhere) mostly very nice people!!!!:flower3:

I guess then I could say that since you are such a Poly fan & making a dumb butt comment like that, we can all assume that people that stay at the Poly are all obnoxious dumb butts.:confused3 Well, I won't assume that because I know that's wrong, but you sure don't make a good case for the Poly.:rotfl:

I have stayed at both and the GF blows the Poly away. Not so say the Poly isn't nice, but the GF is MUCH NICER IMO. :thumbsup2 I have met the nicest guests and CMs at the GF. :goodvibes

Business travelers making guests feel low?:confused3 My DH travels for business, too....guess who foots the bill for that? THE COMPANY. :rotfl: Vacationers are paying for their OWN stays. If anyting the business travelers are getting a free ride - WHy would anybody but a totally insecure paranoid person even think that a business traveler (or anybody else for that matter) is looking down on them? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks everyone for their opinions. I ended up booking the Poly. We were able to get a suite there that fit our entire family and budget, so it worked out well. I am excited to try a new resort (the Poly). I have stayed at the GF and loved it, but we felt that with four stays in a row, that it was time for a change.
Thanks again!

Well have a nice time.:) We keep returning to the GF (probably a dozen times in the past couple years:goodvibes ) because after staying everywhere else we've found FOR US, it's consistently THE BEST. :wizard:

Enjoy!

Thank you. I am really looking forward to the Poly. However, I have nearly 9 months to wait until we go! Luckily, our next trip is to the GF in about 3 months.
Thanks again.

With all this talk of snooty GF ... I hope I dont get kicked out of my resort for having my walmart tshirt on :rotfl: :rotfl:

Its solid colored... you think I will be ok?

Seriously, I never got the snooty feeling from either resort. Both are pretty... they are the top 2 resorts at Disney price wise.

For me I found the poly pool was a lot more crowded and people were more free with the drinking. I did see several drunks by the pool... Those tropical drinks will go to your head QUICK :rotfl2:
Because of my experience, this trip I convinced my daughter the GF would be better. She liked the look of the poly but 6 year olds don't understand silly drinking adults :rotfl2:
I am NOt saying there aren't drunks at the GF, I just have never seen them. I found the GF to be less of a party resort than I did the Poly. For some they love the party scene while others not so much.

I've stayed at both resorts more than once, and come back to the Poly because that is my preferred style of vacation. I've never noticed snooty people at any resort, nor have I ever encountered drunks at the Poly-- in many, many stays over the years going back to the 70's with oodles of pool time (we're big time pool lounging people). :confused3 I'm sure it's happened, but the idea that someone would characterize this resort as a "party resort" is beyond me. I'm bringing my kids back, as my parents brought me, because it's a very kid friendly resort with a pool area and beach that hosts many laughing children and their parents having a ball together.
