Poly or FW Cabin

I already have reservations for Poly but I've been reading some good things about the cabins and am wondering if I should switch.

It will be myself, dd 7, dd 8 and my mom. We will be there in October and we will not have our own vehicle. Aside from the transportation issues the cabins look fun, it seems that there are quite a few activities and we could save some money. I'd love some opinions as I've never stayed at either.

I'm already splitting my stay between Poly and CBR and cannot change the CBR part because we have friends meeting us there that are getting the SoG overflow rate and I think it would be really hard to get everything switched.

So, Poly or Cabins for our first 4 nights?

We've stayed at both.

POLY though is convenient because it's on the monorail line and you can even walk to the TTC if you're in a building on the east side of the resort so you can walk to the monorail that goes to EPCOT too!

You can use the monorail to go to the other resorts to dine or to just explore and of course it is convenient to MK. The atmosphere is beautiful, very tropical and lots of fragrant plants. There is also a very nice pool area.

FW Cabins have a very different atmosphere but I love them! They are like going to the mountains (without mountains), but having the conveniences of WDW right outside your door.

If you don't have a car you can either rent a golf cart or you can take the internal buses to get to the front to pick up buses to the parks or to the marina to pick the boat to MK or CR (which you can then pick up the monorail).

FW Cabins have a lot of activities for the kids including the nightly campfire and movie. October is a big transition month weatherwise, it can be warm or it can start to cool down.

You'll have more privacy at the cabins and of course the full kitchen is wonderful. You can pick up some groceries on the way from the airport, eat most of your meals at the cabin for the first 4 days and then check out some of the good meals the rest of your trip (it'll help save $$$$).

If I had to choose between the 2, I would go for the cabins

Thank you for the detailed reviews on both resorts! I'm so torn and I really need to make a decision quick!! I talked to a co-worker today that stayed in the cabins and hated them so much she wanted her money back so I had pretty much decided to stick with the Poly until I read your post!

The cabin appeals to me a little more only because we've never stayed in one anywhere and probably won't, plus Poly and CBR are so closely themed that they might not seem very different! But then again, the whole transportation issue bothers me a little as we will not have a car! Yikes!

Anyway, thanks for your input! I hope I get a few more responses!

I loved the cabins!!!! I stayed there from July 1 - July 11th this year with my DBF and 4 kids!!

It was cozy, spacious and very clean. It was great to be able to bring back left overs from restaurants and have a fridge, stove, microwave to keep them.

We will stay there again! We didn't think the Transporation was that bad at all.

You'll never run out of things to do or see at the FW Cabins. It's nice to feel "at home" when on vacation.

I've stayed at both and sorry to add to your confusion but I have to reccommend you stick to the Poly. I really liked the cabins but I did find transportation to be an issue. If you stay at Epcot to watch Illuminations you've got to walk all the way out to the front of the park, wait for a bus and then take a bus within the campground back to your cabin. I'm sure your 7 & 8 year olds will be tired. And you can't just take the boat to MK. You've got to take a bus to the boat. I did like having the full kitchen and you'd have a second vanity in the bedroom and you'd all have a bed and you'd be able to put the kids to bed in the bedroom and stay up in the living room. YET...I'd still choose the Poly. I really love it. You just can't beat the convenience. And the pool is so cool and the beach and you can see the castle....

You say you've never stayed at a cabin before and may not have a chance again but when have you ever stayed at a resort where you can watch the castle change colors at night? I'm sure you'll love either and have a great trip what ever you choose. You can't go wrong with either.

Another vote to stay at the Polynesian.

We've stayed at both and love both. However the two times we stayed in the cabins we had a baby. It was perfect for that as you have your own little world. Quiet for the baby and for the neighbors. But with children your age I'd say Polynesian all the way.

Transportation options abound. Don't forget to take advantage of the TTC for transportation to Epcot, MGM and AKL. For MK you can take the monorail, small launches from the Polynesian or even the ferry back to the TTC. You can hop the monorail and visit CR and GF.

The Polynesian offers a number of free activities for children.

In your situation, I would prefer the bed situation at the Polynesian too. In the cabins there is one double bed, bunkbeds and a Sico bed. The Polynesian offers two queen beds and a very comfortable twin size daybed.

Lastly, to me the Polynesian just drips with Disney magic. FW cabins are very nice but not quite the same...to me anyway.

At any rate have fun whichever you choose!

Haven't stayed there YET, but everyone I know who has LOVED it and the proximity to the Magic Kingdom - especially for your age children.

Stayed at Wilderness Cabins and did enjoy them! But we were there a week with a family in the cabin next door. Put all the kids in bedroom and we hit the murphy bed. We cooked most meals in and was great to have our car parked right out front. And THANK GOODNESS for the car! Buses were always packed and at times had to stand. They did large loops and seemed to take forever just to get to the main area with the boat to MK. Cabins are far from all the Campground activity and we had to bus anywhere within. They do not allow parking except a few spots at grocery - (which was unbelievably expensive, some items up 400%) - so we couldn't drive to places within. Kids were disappointed with the boring pools. I would go back, but only for a very discounted rate. I felt like we gave up that Disney pampering atmosphere for a kitchen.

Thanks to everyone for your responses, I don't know what I'd do without this website. Well, I called tonight to see if I could switch to a cabin but there was nothing available for my dates, so I guess I'm staying with the Poly which I don't think I'll regret.

Maybe next time I'll try a cabin. But on the other hand I may just fall in love with the Poly and never want to stay anywhere else.

I've stayed at the Poly and visited friends at CBR and I didn't think they were all that closely themed beside the fact that they both have beaches. We felt like the Poly was so much more laid back and comfortable than anywhere else on property. Aita Peatea! (YMMV, of course.)

Unless you are trying to get somewhere off property (grocery store, McDonalds, SeaWorld, etc.) a car really isn't a necessity at WDW. I'll warn you that the monorail wil spoil you, though!

Thanks for the reassurance about the difference between CBR and Poly! I wish I didn't have to split my stay but I just couldn't swing the Poly for the whole 8 days. I can't wait!
