We're going on a 7 day cruise on the Magic from 3/15 to 3/22 and I've decided to book a couple of days a WDW at the end. We've been multiple times and my DD who is 12 very specifically knows what rides she wants to go on at MK and animal kingdom. Rooms are available at both Poly and AKLodge. We've always stayed at the Wilderness Lodge but want to try something different.

Any pros and cons on either resort? Will the Poly pool be back in service then?

The main pool at the Poly may still be under rehab, but there is another pool. The weather may not even warrant swimming. The Poly's rooms are much bigger, you have a beach too! You can catch a boat from the marina to MK (very convenient) or you can take the monorail. You can also catch the monorail from the TTC just a couple of minute walk to get to Epcot. VERY convenient. Here is a view from our room from the Poly:

I have heard the Animal Kingdom resort is beautiful, but it is very far from the action. The rooms are smaller, but everything is under one roof. Some people consider this to be an advantage.

I would stay at the Poly. I never have but have a dream to. I love the ammentities of this resort. We have visited both for dinner. AK is a beautiful place also. IMO Poly just has more to offer.

Another vote for the Polynesian. This resort is the only place that I can truely relax. It sounds like your daughter has already made the MK your focus after your cruise, and it is just a short boat or monorail ride there. It is also a short monorail ride to the Grand Floridian and Contemporary for additional shopping and dinning (although the Poly has great shopping and dinning as well).

I would love to stay at both but would go w/ Poly. The Polynesian is my favorite resort property on site. We always have dinner there at least once and just love to walk around the resort in lust, lol.

I have stayed at both & for a short stay that will likely be MK focused I'd say Poly hands down. :thumbsup2 You just can't beat the mororail for convienient MK access. It's also just a short walk to the TTC & the EPCOT monorail for any dinners you may want or have planned.

My DH preferred the AKL pool, but I wouldn't make that your deciding factor unless lounging by the pool was going to be the trip focus. :) Have a great trip.

I would also go with the Polynesian because there is so much more around there then the Animal Kingdom Lodge. With the Polynesian you can walk or take the Monorail to the Grand Floridian and take the Monorail to the Contemporary. Besides that everyone has mentioned watching Wishes from the beach and walking to the TTC when visiting Epcot. While the Animal Kingdom Lodge is a very nice Resort, it's location is to far away from everything else. So with the Polynesian there is a lot more to do and see when your not at the parks or Downtown Disney.

I'm voting for the Poly too....unless you find out that the main pool will be closed. I would not want to pay the extra money for the Poly if the main pool is closed. The pool at the AKL is beautiful.

We've stayed at both too, and I would say Poly hands down. We stayed at AKL this past October, and while it was lovely, it was WAY out of the way of everything and your only choice of transportation was the buses. We much prefer Poly's location to the MK, the monorail, and the theming to AKL.

Hope you have a great trip! :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for your input. I doubt we'll be doing a lot of pool time since we'll only really have 2 days but the convenience of the poly probably makes it the best choice. We ate dinner there the last time we went and it was great.
