Poly New Tower

We just met with a DVC rep a few days ago at the Riviera Resort. She said that even for them Disney has yet to say if the Tower is or is isn't apart of the association. Personally I don't want to be in the tower but would rather be in the long houses and away from all the people/action.

Disney officially filed paperwork adding timeshare weeks to the existing PVB association back in May of this year.

I have a post from today showing past resorts and timelines of what we're waiting for now. Easier to link to it than to summarize the information.

Totally not trying to stir a pot but merely converse as I am still learning, I actually asked the sales agent about this and her party line was something along the lines of ...it is Disney they can do whatever they want and until we officially know something from them there is no official position.

Which begs the question or two actually, one, why wouldn't Disney tell DVC sales people if this is official? And two now that Disney appears to have included the Poly Tower in the original resorts leaving RR the only outlier, what then of RR or are there more changes to come on the horizon for Poly Tower and RR not yet shared?

So I guess three questions down this rabbit hole. It simply makes no sense if it is official why still the mystery and what becomes of RR and the position Disney took on same as it relates to resale market, but I digress.

The sales agent was lying to you, or ignorant. The papers filed are legal papers.

RR is not the only outlier. Disneyland Hotel and the FW Cabins are also restricted.

Well, restrictions do apply to RIV, VDH, and CFW.

In terms of the tower? I don’t understand any moves they have made with this project and seems it’s the best kept secret around.

With the additions of licenses to the associaton, there is really one very outlandish thing they could still do, but I don’t think they would…

For guides, I think the reason it’s not completely confirmed with all is to make sure no one tries to accuse them of stating something and saying it was part of their decision to buy.

Plenty of guesses as to why, but I don't think anyone really knows why some DVC sales people have said it is part of the PVB association and others have not.

Unrestricted buyers have a slowly become restricted to all resale purchases of those "unrestricted resorts".
  • 2019 started with Riviera
  • 2024 VDH and CFW.
  • Likely the next and all future builds will also be restricted. (Personally, I ignore the VGF/BPK and PVB/IT because both of these had a portion where I believe Disney made a mistake with only one room type. BPK had hotel rooms converted. PVB was essentially only longhouses because bungalows are out of reach for 99+% of owners).
  • January 31, 2042 unrestricted resale buyers (those who bought resale after the Riv restrictions began) will lose access to BCV, BWV, BRV, HHI, and VB. Notice the loss of Epcot and DHS area resorts. Notice the loss of all non-WDW resorts east of the Mississippi.
  • January 31, 2054 SSR goes away.
  • January 31, 2057 OKW and AKV go away. For WDW, 4 MK area resorts are left. VGC is nearly impossible to book for non-owners. Aulani is a long way away for most.
  • January 31, 2060 BLT and VGC go away. (VGF, PVB, CCV, and AUL are all that's left).
  • January 31, 2062 Aulani goes away. VGF, PVB, and CCV are all that's left for "unrestricted". All are MK area resorts.
  • January 31, 2064 VGF goes away. PVB + CCV are all that is left.
  • January 31, 2066 PVB goes away (notice Island Tower buyers only get 41-42 years). CCV is a restricted resort at this time without Disney having to do anything.
After 2057 (32.5 years for now), unrestricted will be only MK area resorts at WDW.

Considering the way some on the boards post about OKW and SSR, will 2042 become a tipping point in the restricted/unrestricted conversation?

I think 2057 DVC becomes a regular timeshare with very little differences left... Unless a lot changes by then, & a lot could change as we get closer to 2042, & beyond.

Until units are actually declared, can't they reverse course and undo what was already filed? Not sure if there would be any reason to do this if the intent was to have it be a separate association. I think I read somewhere on here that it's much easier to add to the existing association vs creating a new one. Would adding now allow them to keep moving some other aspect along while they get everything situated for a new association?

There is a clause in the PVB contract that allows them to sell them under a different vacation plan which, based on my understanding, could allow them to sell them using different rules. I would be surpsied to see it done, but technically, even with the timeshare licenses added to PVB, I think there would be a way for them to throw a curveball at us.

However, if that was even a possibility…and I thought once maybe, buy lean against it now, I think they would not have named it Island Tower @ PVB…they would have still kept it connected to the Poly Village Resort so that there could be some level of ambiguity.
