Our strategy is to be out of the parks by 1-2 in the afternoon and hang by the pool during the heat. I have to imagine a lot of people have this strategy. So my question is around the pool and availability of chairs. Is it like the horrid all-inclusives in Mexico where you can forget finding any kind of chair after 10AM, or is it so big that you can usually find a good parking place :)?

I don't think it's as drastic as 10 AM, and the lifeguards should remove any "stuff" from the chairs from anyone trying to hold chairs when they are not actually at the pool. BUT... it is not that big and there is not *that* much seating around the pool area. There are usually quite a few chaises on the beach at the end of the pool.

It can be tough to find a chair at ANY Disney pool - I've experienced that at some time at every resort we have ever stayed at in the afternoons, when it's warm out.

Thanks! Good to know. It's nice to hear that at least they may take care of the dreaded chair savers. That drives me nuts!

If the lifeguards are checking ID as they have been, it shouldn't be a major problem. You should be able to at least find lounge chairs on the beach, if not right by the pool.

We were there 2 years ago before ID checking was happening, and the main pool was so crowded we were elbow-to-elbow with splashing, screaming kids with nowhere to escape; we couldn't even enjoy the pool. Even at that crowd level, we were able to find a few chairs on the pool deck. I'm hopeful that this summer will be better!:)

Remember to bring your room key to the pool with you, incase they're checking!

When we stay at the Poly I find that going on the beach is easier. There are usually chairs there. The only problem is that if you have small children it is obviously hard to watch them if they are in the pool. When my kids were younger it didn't seem so crowded, but now the pool area can really get packed. I also like the "quiet" pool and have never had a problem finding chairs there. There is no slide so that's the downside. And yes you are right, around 1-2 people do start to get to the pool after being at the parks, but sometimes people who have been there since the morning are getting ready to leave and head to the parks. WOW!! I really went on and on!! LOL!! Probably didn't help you at all!!! LOL!!

Enjoy The Magic!!

On a hot afternoon, any time after 1pm, it can be hard to find chairs. Even if they are checking resort IDs. This is our experience. The lifeguards don't really seem to start clearing out chairs, towels, etc. until around 5pm. I would expect the worst and hope for the best and be pleasantly surprised rather than be frustrated. It is a small(er) pool/deck area for the size of the resort. The Polynesian is our favorite resort, but this is our biggest complaint.

Have a great trip!

We stayed at the Poly for 7 days in 2010. We went in the main pool 1 time. It was SO crowded and loud all the time. Thankfully because of my room request, we had the quiet pool basically right out our door and we spent every afternoon there and had no problem finding chairs and even an umbrella table most of the time.

IMO, the main pool at the Poly is the one BIG downfall of the resort.

Don't forget there is a quiet pool on property that is very nice as well, if the main pool is crowded.

Why not hit the "quiet" pool in the early afternoon and go back to the Volcano pool at night -- it won't be as crowded and you can watch Wishes from the pool!

If you're going to leave MK in the early afternoon, definitely leave well ahead of 3pm parade (ditto for parades at AK and HS) -- I think lots of people end their day with the parade, and then the monorails, boats and buses get swamped afterwards.

We had the same experience each time we have stayed at the Poly. And that is my biggest complaint as well. There were days here and there that we were able to get a table and a couple of chairs, but lots of people like to spend their afternoons out by the pool and it does get crowded there.

We're at the Poly right now (sitting in my room in Tokelau watching a storm roll across Seven Seas Lagoon), the pool is very busy in the afternoon. We've been using chairs in the beach part, close to the pool because the chairs on the pool deck are always taken. Lots of pool towels holding spots, I did see the lifeguards clear chairs that only had pool towels yesterday, I didn't notice them clearing chairs today. Resort ID's are not being checked this week, I did see some people pool hopping last night including people who were mad because they pool hopped and Poly doesn't have a hot tub! :rotfl:
