Poly main pool to be closed, what to do?

Greetings! We just received a letter from WDW that the main pool at the Poly will be closed right at the time of our visit there late Feb/early Mar (5 nights)

It said that we would have access to the pool at the GF, but with 3 small kids it's not really practical to do that walkover, nor to ride the monorail to and back in our bathing suits.

What to do?

Should we switch over to the beach/yacht club? (Great pool, but no monorail which we prefer for the small kids) Can we get something at this late time?

Or if we stay at the Poly and just use the little pool, do we have any leverage with the predicament that we can't conveniently use the GF pool with our small kids to get some kind of comps out of this unfortunate situation? TIA.

With three small kids, the quiet pool at the Poly may be enough for you. (You have to be a certain age to use slides, it's not always warm enough to swim in February anyhow, etc.) And the convenience of the monorail can't be beat if you plan to spend a lot of time at the MK. The YC/BC are in a great location, too. If you plan to spend significant amounts of time at MGM and Epcot, this location is fabulous and the pool is a bonus. However, if you really plan to focus on the MK, I don't know that the pool would be enough of a draw for me. I'd probably stay at the Poly or consider the WL (boat to MK) or maybe one of the other monorail hotels.

All of that said, pools are closed for refurbishing all the time at Disney. One of the downsides of going at off-peak times is that things will be down for refurbishment. I wouldn't expect any kind of comps - upgrades and other surprises seem completely unrelated to things like this.

Actually, the walk to the GF on the beach is not long AT ALL and beautiful and relaxing. We usually have friends staying at the GF whenever we are at the Poly and we make the trek....five minutes tops. My kids love the water spouts at the GF and the big slide. Trust me, the walk over there on the beach is a PLUS in my book...lol.

It really isn't that long a walk if you are staying in a long house that's on the GF side, or even somewhere in the middle of the resort. I probably wouldn't attempt it if you are staying in one of the long houses next to the TCC center.

We always, always stay in the Tahiti longhouse (right by the TTC). It is only a short walk from the main pool and we do it all the time. Granted, some folks might find it too far, but we find it a relaxing walk.

Honestly, it's not a big deal. You can use the quiet pool.

After more discussion last night and this morning, we decided to change our reservations to the GF since it wouldn't be much more, and we've never actually stayed there before.

Talking with the rez agent we mentioned that the main reason was the Volcano pool being closed (we REALLY like that pool... it was a deal breaker for us) and she mentioned that the GF pool *could* be closed also during that time, but since the letter we received mentioned that the GF's beach pool would be open to the Poly guests, it's highly unlikely it would be closed. (We really like pools with a zero entrance side... which the GF Beach pool has, just like the Volcano pool)

This will be fun, staying at the GF for the first time!

I actually made the walk several times with my then two year old and it was fun, no trouble. I agree that you are probably better off switching to the GF if the pool is important to you. That said, I have water rat children and when we went in February for 8 days they only swam once, it was too cold.

we are sticking with the Poly. We are looking forward to going to Hawaii...my dd is convinced it is where Lilo lives so there is now WAY I could talk her outta it anyway.
But seriously....it my be too cold to swim anyway...we can use the quiet pool or take the short walk to GF.......plus we are cruising too, so will be LOTSA swim time in hopefully warmer conditions.

I can't wait to breakin my new Rebel TXi.........

Although the Poly is my first love, lol, I would do what you did. With three little ones, with even the chance of swimming, I would want the zero entry. After all, the MK will be your first stop on the monorail. Congratulations!!! We cannot wait to hear your review.
